The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in international health for various clients. To complement our expertise in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV we are seeking a

Public Health expert
with project management experience in the area of reproductive health

The successful candidate will contribute to: • Project management and advisory services to various clients • Identifying and attracting major new projects and consultancies • Strengthening ongoing SCIH or Swiss TPH projects, particularly in francophone Africa, • Providing advisory and teaching activities involving maternal and neonatal health, HIV and AIDS and other fields of sexual and reproductive health. Required qualifications and experience:  Health professional,  Master in Public Health or equivalent postgraduate degree,  At least 5 years working experience in the field of public health and/or social development of which at least 3 years should be technical assistance work based in developing or transition countries,  Proven track record of project management experience (particularly in francophone Africa),  Experience in working for various bilateral and multilateral clients (backstopping, consultancies, long term),  Working experience and advisory competence in the fields of maternal and child /perinatal health, sexual and reproductive health,  Willingness to extensively travel abroad,  Excellent French and English – ability to work to a high standard in these languages (written and oral),  Experience in proposal writing and tendering in a competitive market environment,  Working experience related to quality assurance and/or quality management in health would be an asset.

The position is based in Basel but includes frequent international missions. The successful candidate will be mid-career and have the experience and skills to attract substantial new projects to the department. He or she will join a multidisciplinary team which is organised with ample room for participation in management processes and in a stimulating environment with links to bilateral and multilateral organizations, universities, and non-governmental organizations. The position is open as of September 2012, taking into account the usual period of notice of applicants.
