Vice President: Development & Administration American Near East Refugee Aid

Role & Responsibilities

The vice president (VP) of development & administration, reporting directly to the President, will provide the vision and oversight required for increasing revenue and promoting partnerships. This includes new business development with institutional funders, grant solicitation, major gifts, corporation/foundation funds, events, direct mail, planned giving, and online donations. In coordination with the President and various stakeholders, the VP would initiate and implement a long-term strategy for growth. The VP would supervise a staff of six.
The VP would be the leader for all new business development activities with significant assistance from the President.

Under the VP’s coordination, the HQ fundraising team is expected to increase funding to ANERA in ways that engage and educate donors and encourage long-term financial contributions and commitment.
The VP would create and manage the proper administrative systems to implement these goals and the overall operation of ANERA. That would include some country office operations, and other non-financial administration.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the VP will coordinate with the President, CFO and country directors to provide leadership and management of all ANERA activities. This includes collaborating with the Board of Directors.


The VP’s responsibilities could be divided into the following areas.


Development

Lead in the setting of goals, protocols and implementation for ANERA’s grant solicitation.
Expand our relationship with USAID and diversify our base to other funders.
Coordinate with country office directors/staff to prioritize funding targets and joint cultivation.
Manage various stakeholder relationships including HQ, field and Board.
Coordinate grant proposals and concept papers including ANERA templates and standard language.
Coordinate tracking, reporting and analysis of RFA’s and unsolicited proposals.
Provide tools to staff to encourage this entrepreneurial spirit.

Fundraising

Assist cultivation and solicitation of major individual, foundation and corporate donors.
Manage with the president the execution of international fundraising efforts, including governmental donations.
Represent ANERA at select donor and membership gatherings.
Oversee composition and review of high-level funding proposals and reports.
Initiate, advance and oversee fundraising efforts ensuring they are consistent with ANERA’s values and capacity.
Track, monitor and report on donor income, plus renewal, lapsed and new donor acquisition rates throughout the year.
Devise and execute policies/procedures suitable to expansion and accountability to donors.
Create and maintain timely management reporting.
Oversee enhancement of a suitable infrastructure for gift processing and customer relations management, especially, the donor data base.

Budgetary Management

Develop departmental and revenue budgets with participation of relevant team members and in conjunction with the president.
Approve and monitor fundraising team expenses and budgets.

Board and Committee Stewardship

Help activate board, advisory council and committee members to act as ambassadors for ANERA.
Facilitate the work of the Development Committee.

Agency Administration

Develop and maintain policies/procedures and systems to enhance efficient operations consonant with our mission, guiding principles and best business practices.
Coordinate with the CFO on financial and IT matters.
Manage HR at HQ.
Assist in standardization of Country Office operations with attention to local law.

Qualifications

Candidates should be exceptionally knowledgeable about non-profit business development and resource generation. Strong communication, strategic and leadership skills are critical to success in this position. Candidates must have the capacity and desire to work in an environment of consensus-based decision-making and highly effective cross-disciplinary cooperation.
The VP should have a proven track record of senior management with supervision of staff and an ability to manage multiple tasks especially on a long distance basis.
The VP must have a value set consistent with ANERA, based upon collaboration, entrepreneurship, high ethical standards, accuracy and a driven desire to make a difference in the lives of families throughout the Middle East.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated success in raising six figure gifts from grantors, donors & funders
Grant solicitation or proposal experience
Highly organized administrator with an eye to systems
Knowledge of the Middle East (preferred) or experience in international relief and development
Willingness and ability to travel to Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon.
Masters Degree – preferably an MBA

Founded in 1968, ANERA is dedicated to improving lives in the Middle East and employs more than 80 full-time staff in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon and Jordan who are locally hired and work with local partners. ANERA draws on a diverse range of funding sources to deliver programs and in-kind donations to communities in the Middle East.

ANERA’s Headquarters has a staff of 12 and includes a team of 6 fundraising professionals responsible for ANERA’s new business development, donor cultivation and stewardship, online and print communications, and coordination of all fundraising efforts from private individuals and non-governmental institutions. This collaborative and highly effective team works in conjunction with the field staff in raising a multi-million dollar annual fund, communicates with an online list of over 30,000, and provides financial stewardship to a list of over 8,000 individual donors in 30 countries annually.

ANERA’s field operations include five offices in the Palestinian Territories, one in Beirut and a representative in Amman. While numbers of field staff fluctuate, they average 65 of which only one is an expat (American).
