WWF Colombia, Director of Communications and Marketing

Position: Director of Communications and Marketing - Subregional Program WWF Northern Amazon & Choco-Darien (NACD)
Reports to: WWF Sub-Regional Representative
Location: Cali and Bogota, Colombia
Date: April 2012

Major functions

1. Lead and guide strategy development and coordinate the Communications and Marketing team.
2. Integrate Communications and Marketing strategically with WWF NACD conservation priorities, with the Program Direction and the Governance, Policy, Development and Conservation divisions, and projects to help achieve institutional goals.
3. As part of the Senior Management Team, provide advice and guidance on issues and opportunities related to communications and marketing.
4. Position externally and internally (within WWF Network) the Sub-regional Program by implementing media strategies, campaigning, web 2.0 strategy, corporate branding and publishing plan.
5. Coordinate with Policy and Development divisions the design and implementation of a marketing strategy for fundraising purposes with the private sector.

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Strategies: Develop and implement the Communications and marketing strategy of the Sub-regional Program ensuring its integration with conservation priorities. Develop and implement sub strategies and/or communication plans for specific issues and projects in accordance with requirements.
2. Research: Develop and coordinate market research processes jointly with Conservation, Governance and Policy divisions, for strategies, sub strategies, campaigns and communication and marketing plans, and to implement innovative and effective tools.
3. Strategic planning, work plans, M & E, adaptive management, systematization and lessons learning and sharing: Develop the strategic planning in accordance with the standards, steps and procedures of WWF International, ensuring compliance with goals, timeframes and budgets.
4. Media, Campaigns and marketing, Publications, Branding, Web 2.0, Materials: Supervise and coordinate the implementation of strategies, plans and actions related to communications, media, campaigns, editorial plans, online strategy, institutional branding and production of promotional materials.
5. Communications and marketing as a crosscutting issue of the Program: Conceptual and technical capacity building and training for WWF staff on communications, marketing, media relations, development of basic proposals, presentations, etc.
6. Communicate progress, results and lessons learned of the Sub regional Program to external donors and the WWF Network.
7. Information systems (photos, news, publications, etc.): Supervise maintenance, permanent input, regular updates and usage.
8. Fundraising: Develop marketing plans and proposals in the framework of the fundraising strategy, working together with Development and Policy teams.
9. Partnerships: Maintain and establish communication and marketing agreements with media, advertising agencies and other key stakeholders.
10. Ambassadors: Identify a set of public ambassadors for WWF in different areas, from entertainment to opinion leaders.
11. Volunteers: Establish and maintain volunteer program for WWF in the sub region, regarding the development of different initiatives.

Working relationships

Internal
• With the Sub Regional Representative to ensure that communications respond strategically and timely to the requirements of the Program.
• With the Communications and marketing team and other communicators in the sub region.
• Interaction and ongoing advice to the Senior Management Team.
• With F&A.
• With LAC Communications coordination.
• With the WWF Network communicators, especially with donor offices.

External

• With consultants, volunteers, suppliers.
• With contact persons of donor and partner organizations.
• With media directors/editors (press, magazines, online, local, national and sub regional) and with creative directors of advertising agencies.
• With officers of government agencies, NGOs, grassroots organizations and other stakeholders.
• With key players to establish strategic alliances and joint development of campaigns.

Requirements

• Communicator or similar background, with knowledge and experience of at least 10 years of strategic communications and knowledge of issues relevant to WWF.
• Experience working with national and/or international NGOs (preferably on development and environment) for at least 5 years.
• Knowledge and experience of a wide range of communication and marketing tools.
• Knowledge and experience of the concept and implementation of Web 2.0 strategies.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills, in English and Spanish.
• Ability and experience in managing strategic relationships with various stakeholders (media, business, community and government stakeholders, donors, academy, etc.).
• Ability to respond quickly and creatively to different situations.
• Leadership skills to work effectively under pressure and to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
100% Spanish and English fluency (writing, reading and speaking).
• Willingness to travel.
