Director of Strategy and Curricular Support, MBA Program

The Director of Strategy and Curricular Support collaborates closely with MBA Program colleagues and other GSB departments to lead strategic thinking for the MBA Program, support the curricular and co-curricular experiences, and coordinate across departments within the MBA Program. The Director manages a small team, and also serves as an academic advisor for a cohort of 60 to 100 students. 

Responsibilities include:
Lead strategic thinking for the MBA Program: Collect data on how the MBA Program is achieving its goals; analyze and synthesize data; identify issues and proactively think of potential solutions; work with Senior Associate Dean and Assistant Dean for the MBA Program to determine path forward and execute plans; coordinate MBA Program budget and reconcile to ensure actions are consistent with goals.

Support the curricular and co-curricular experience of the MBA Program: Collaborate to develop and implement Week 0 programming; collaborate with faculty to recommend students to levels of Foundations Courses; provide student information to faculty teaching Critical Analytical Thinking (CAT) and staff academic advisors to assist with advising; publicize academic support for students (e.g., review sessions); manage Self-Paced Basic Skills Assessment for admitted students; set fees; manage select co-curricular activities (e.g., diversity events); act as advisor to the Student Association Academic Committee; oversee Student Handbook.

Coordinate across departments with the MBA Program: Coordinate academic and non-academic deadlines and reduce conflict among events , provide first line support when other departments have surge in activity; collaborate with colleagues to coordinate events, deadlines, messaging etc. to support student experience and maximize effectiveness, including coordination of Week 0 and Exclusive Academic Period (EAP) calendars.

Serve as an academic adviser for MBA Students: Master a robust knowledge base that includes the courses, degree requirements, curriculum structure, faculty, student issues and needs, policies, processes, and resources of the MBA Program, the GSB, and academics/student services throughout Stanford University. Advise an assigned cohort and have constant interaction with the MBA student population resulting in a significant, daily impact on the student experience. Advising responsibilities include meeting with individual students on a regular basis, fielding questions and feedback, explaining and upholding academic policy, and handling sensitive situations with a positive attitude and professional grace while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Qualifications:
• Four-year college degree and 8+ years of experience in business-related field required; MBA (preferably from Stanford) required; managerial experience preferred.
• Familiarity with Stanford’s Graduate School of Business required.
• A strong analytical and quantitative toolkit including expertise with Excel, PowerPoint and other business software.
• A self-starter with a strong sense of initiative and follow-through: a high degree of creativity and pragmatism; the ability to juggle multiple projects; and the ability to take a project through from conceptualization to execution.
• Comfortable working at both high-level strategy and detailed implementation: ability to see the big picture, how individual components fit into it, and the implications of decisions; strong organizational skills, instinctive attention to detail; ability to execute quickly and efficiently. 
• A collaborative team-player: a willingness and ability to reach out to many constituencies and understand their needs and priorities; an ability to move a group to consensus and to motivate others to act; and strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Superb written and verbal communication skills, active listening skills, and the interpersonal skills needed to work with a broad range of individuals successfully including faculty, staff, and students.
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage a significant advising case load, to define problems, to propose and implement effective and timely solutions, to differentiate between recommendations/suggestions and requirements, and to set and readjust often-competing priorities.
