ERNWACA Research Manager


The Educational Research Network for West and Central Africa (ERNWACA) was established in 1989 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Currently, ERNWACA is managing a wide range of programs and projects in its sixteen member countries. The mission is to promote African expertise in Educational research and a culture of research in order to improve Education policy and practice in ERNWACA’s member countries. 
ERNWACA seeks to recruit a Research Manager
Mission. In collaboration with ERNWACA Executive Secretary , the incumbent will be in charge of :
  • coordinating training, research, communication, and publication activities;
  • developing and pursuing a partnership development strategy to expand the scope of ERNWACA research agenda.

Regional staff, ERNWACA member researchers and coordinators, ERNWACA partners including collaborating African universities
Supervisor: ERNWACA Executive Secretary
Responsibilities
  • Working out research proposals for submission to potential partners to grow ERNWACA strategic contribution to the production of crucial endogenous African research in the current context of international dialogue on new research priorities in education in Africa
  • Overall planning and supervision of research activities
  • Developing, maintaining, and prioritizing budgetary resources
  • Establishing research work guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Monitoring effectiveness and quality control
  • Performing public relations activities with program managers
  • Interfacing with universities and research partners
  • Ensuring participatory and decentralized approaches in research activities
  • Developing learning environment and community of practice
  • Preparing and participating in research methodology and scholarly writing workshops
  • Writing synthesis of national research reports for Web publication and submission to professional journals
  • Participating in the development of scientific publications, in conversation with ERNWACA regional scientific committee
Profile
  • Minimum of 5 to7 years of research and publishing experience, preferably in relation to education in African societies
  • Proven experience in human resource mobilization and multi-country team leadership
  • Experience in teaching/training in a variety of contexts
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful administrative experience
  • Excellent analytical writing skills
  • Preferably PhD in a social science discipline
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Demonstrated use of integration of Internet and other multi-media, computer-based applications into daily professional and personal life
  • Excellent in spoken and written French and English, in addition to several African languages
  • International and intercultural experience including experience in several West/Central African and other countries
