Goal:
Develop and implement innovative communications strategies to dramatically increase GAVI’s visibility and influence and help the Alliance achieve its operational goals.
Reporting to the Director of Media & Communications, you will oversee corporate messaging and branding, partnerships and campaigns, publications and e-communications. As such, you are an excellent manager who knows how to stimulate creativity, new thinking and collaboration.
We welcome applicants with private sector experience as well as from non-profit and politics.
Key results expected:
  • Increased profile of GAVI and immunisation globally and in key donor countries; 
  • Strengthened communications strategies through enhanced messaging and branding, strategic partnerships, innovative campaigns and new media approaches; 
  • Better quality corporate publications, e-communications, and other produces targeted specific audiences and integrated into campaign approaches; 
  • Competent team and budgetary management, including of external suppliers and contractors with an aim to streamline costs and increase value for money.
Main duties/ Responsibilities:
1. Strategic planning, implementation & management
  • Assist the M&C Director in delivering strategic communications that increase GAVI’s visibility and influence; 
  • Lead a sub-team who manages e-communications&website, partnerships, publications and visibility; 
  • Manage and ensure implementation of relevant communications policies. 
2. Branding and corporate messaging
  • Act as guardian of the GAVI brand and leadthe development and implementation of a new brandstrategy to harnesses GAVI’s new energy and direction; 
  • Lead and coordinate clear, evidence-based messaging.
3. Reputational risk
  • Lead on reputational risk issues and engineer rapid responses to attacks and opportunities--defending our brand, and injecting ally voices into important debates.
4. Campaigns
  • Partner with natural allies to rally collective support over the long term and around specific goals; 
  • Develop compelling campaigns that raise GAVI’s visibility and leverage partnerships to develop broad public and political will for immunisation.
5. E-communications, corporate publications and products
  • Transform GAVI’s e-communications (web and newsletters), publications and visibility materials as advocacy tools to inform and prompt action.

Academic:
Advanced university degree in communications or related field preferred.
Work experience:
  • Minimum 10 years of increasing responsibility in corporate communications, marketing or public relations; 
  • Demonstrated know-how in developing and implementing complex communications strategies; 
  • Management and team-building experience; 
  • Knowledge of public and/orglobal health issues preferred; 
  • Advocacy and campaign experience preferred.
Skills/competencies:
  • Excellent oral and written skills for both press and popular audiences. Your writing should be sharp, personable, and memorable;
  • Ability to translate science and development issues for a broader audience. Solid knowledge of global health, immunisation and vaccine-related issues preferred;
  • Excellent detail-oriented project management. You're experienced at triage, and can handle a lot going on at once;
  • Good marketing skills. You're great at coming up with messages, slogans, and tactics that draw attention and you know what will resonate with our target audiences;
  • Demonstrable experience maintaining and promoting voice and brand;
  • Quick political and strategic mind; calm in a crisis, with great instincts and an ability to command when necessary;
  • Seasoned team building experience. You love leading a team to victory;
  • Willing to do what it takes to succeed with low ego and high focus on getting the job done;
  • Mission driven, self-starter who can do flexible hours and manage your time independently. You know that saving the world doesn't always happen between 9 and 5;
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and establish harmonious and effective working relationships.
Languages:
  • Written and spoken fluency in English;
  • French an asset. Other languages a plus.
