Manager Fair Trade USA Oakland /San Francisco Bay, United States
Manager, Consumer Packaged Goods
Being in Business Development means you get to be part of the spark that creates new impact to farmers – we recruit new companies to create Fair Trade products, and help our current partners sell more. It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
We're looking for someone to help new companies successfully develop and sell Fair Trade products, while also ensuring the success of our current partners.
What does that mean you’ll be doing? Good question! As the point-person representing Fair Trade USA to our current and prospective partners, you'll be:
• Helping our current partners maintain and build their current supply-chains, and share the impact they're having with their customers (whether online, in advertisements, or at events)
• Targeting brands that could fit well with the Fair Trade family to help them successfully launch new Fair Trade products, creating new impact to farmers
Day-to-day that means you are speaking with brand managers and sourcing folks to make Fair Trade work; You'll share opportunities for growth with ingredients importers and processors; You'll learn from distributors and retailers just what their customers are looking for. A lot of this will be by e-mail or over the phone, but about 25% of the time you'll be on the road
In return you'll have one of the most rewarding jobs on the planet - we're impactful, we're entrepreneurial, and we're fun. You'll love it.
Requirements:
• You believe deeply that our current approach to the planet and its people doesn’t work, and you want to make things better
• You understand how business works and how business-decisions are made, so you can figure out how a company can best fit Fair Trade into their business model
• You're empathetic - you understand other people's problems, and are quick-on-your-feet in developing mutually beneficial solutions
• You're outcome-oriented and know how to get things done
• But you recognize that getting things done means playing well with others, so you’re a great coalition builder, whether with people on your team, in other departments, or in the food industry
