Finance Manager
PHR is seeking a finance professional for our NYC-based Finance Manager position, with depth of experience in non-profit accounting.
This position will work closely with our Director of Finance and Administration (DFA/CFO), our Grants Manager, and the rest of our dynamic and dedicated PHR staff. The Finance Manager has direct responsibility for the organization’s budget, finance, and operations-related activities, including: assisting in developing fiscal strategies, creating projections and reports, and managing payroll, accounts payables/receivables, cash disbursements, and the general ledger. This position requires a strategic thinker as well as a hands-on implementer, to ensure the maintenance of solid financial systems and a smooth functioning Finance office. This position will interact and develop a strong working relationship with all members of the PHR staff.
The Finance Manager should have specialized financial skills and experience, accounting knowledge, and familiarity with financial software applications. The ability to work with federal and international funding sources and complex budgets is essential.

Responsibilities Include:
- Prepare work papers supporting the annual form 990
- Coordinate the preparation of annual audit with external CPA firm
- Review and record journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
- Prepare work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances
- Ensure accurate accounting records are maintained by reviewing monthly accounting close process, and assisting with analytical review of the monthly operating results
- Create and present timely monthly/quarterly financial results and projections to the DFA and the Senior Management Team
- Prepare and monitor all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activity.
- Prepare payroll documentation and process biweekly payroll, and serve as liaison with payroll provider regarding taxes and remittances to benefits vendors
- Prepare monthly and quarterly payments of withholdings and PHR contributions to 403(b) plan record keeper
- Manage full cycle of purchase order submissions to paying invoices
- Review and reconcile employee expense reports and credit card statements to ensure accuracy and timely payments
- Ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are implemented to maintain the integrity of the financial and administrative systems
- Reconcile and monitor all domestic and foreign cash accounts, assist the DFA with cash flow projections, and administer petty cash
- Prepare state/federal filings in accordance with various state regulations and deadlines
- With direction from the DFA, monitor current year’s budget, analyze and review on a monthly basis and effectively communicate and present, in a timely manner, critical financial matters to the DFA and/or the Executive Director and appropriate managers
- Assist Grants Manager, when needed, with proposal budgets and grant reporting
- Research and make recommendations to improve cost effectiveness of the organization
- Assist the DFA as necessary in managing daily financial and administrative operations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit accounting
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Familiar with Sage-MIP Financial Accounting or other accounting software; experienced computer user; familiar with Windows XP and Microsoft Office Professional 2010;
- Advanced Excel skills are required
- Self-starter, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a good sense of humor
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise good judgment and discretion at all times
- Commitment to human rights is essential
