Musoni is the world'€™s first MFI to exclusively use mobile money transfer services for all loan repayments and disbursements. Musoni’s use of the Kenyan M-PESA service, with its large number of agents and clients, has enabled it to offer an alternative to the traditional microfinance processes.
About the Job: 
Musoni is looking for a Chief Executive Officer. S/he will be responsible to provide leadership and direction in the realization of Musoni's medium and long term business strategies. Reporting to the board, the incumbent will have the overall responsibility for the performance of the company in line with Musoni'€™s vision, mission, and Values.
Tasks and Responsibilities: 
  • Strategy, vision, values:
    • Develop and maintain the strategy together with the Board and the senior team;
    • Set financial and operational performance targets for all operations in the areas of outreach, sustainability, credit management, portfolio quality activities, human resources, administration, marketing, product development, fundraising and business development activities, and branch performance to ensure solid development in the local market.
  • Operations:
    • Take ultimate responsibility for all operational issues, including planning, business development and execution of plans;
    • Work with the senior management team to develop and execute operational plans to support short, medium and long term goals.
  • Finance:
    • Supervise the CFO in maintaining the finance system;
    • Develop and pursue with the senior management team the financial goals;
    • Ensure P&L and expenses are managed to target;
    • Work with the CFO to develop financial reporting that supports tight financial control;
    • Work with the CFO to develop appropriate reporting for the board.
  • IT:
    • Assist the Musoni BV IT-department in running and maintaining the technology infrastructure;
    • Keep a clear view of IT business needs and communicate issues to the IT team;
    • Ensure IT plans are properly aligned and can support business strategy;
    • Ensure BCP plans are in place, tested and maintained;
    • Work with IT to develop strategies that are scalable and enhance competitive advantage.
  • Internal control:
    • Hold responsibility for the implementation of high standards of internal control and procedures in order to safeguard the company’s operations, assets, and data;
    • Ensure that internal audit procedures are respected, facilitate the work of external and internal auditors and be responsible for the implementation of their recommendations.
  • HRM:
    • Oversee and support the development and implementation of effective HR policies and procedures for recruitment, training, and talent development;
    • Establish an effective and competent participatory management style;
    • Motivate all staff to excel in the quality of service they provide and to work effectively in team.
  • Communication, external affairs, and corporate image:
    • Act as the principal representative of the company with government agencies, donors, other companies and the media;
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the relevant regulatory bodies, government officials, and microfinance and banking industry leaders;
    • Establish reliable networking mechanisms through which the company can predict the medium and long term changes in the political, social, economic, legislative, and market environment;
    • Liaise with strategic partners to raise funds (debt, grant or capital), maintain relationships and build new partnerships.
  • Deposit taking license:
    • Take responsibility for application for deposit-taking license on behalf of Musoni DTM Limited;
    • Maintain good relations with the Central Bank of Kenya's banking supervision department and other relevant bodies.
Qualifications: 
  • Degree preferably in business related discipline from a recognized university. Master’s in Business Administration will be an added advantage;
  • Minimum of 10 years of microfinance or commercial bank experience preferably having been involved in restructuring or transformation. At least 5 years as a senior executive;
  • Demonstrated awareness and knowledge of the local and regional business climate as well as the
  • Kenyan agricultural landscape will be advantageous; Proven experience in developing and maintaining organizational structures, functions, and processes to achieve business objectives;
  • Notable success in leading a diverse group of managers through creativity, mentorship, innovation, and team leadership;
  • Change management with the ability to develop staff capacity to improve productivity;
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities with a positive and constructive attitude.
