OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : To provide technical support for building national capacity in reproductive health programme development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and other related issues in response to regional and national needs and priorities. Purpose of the Post: To contribute to strengthening national capacity in reproductive health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and developing new evidence, products, technologies, interventions and delivery approaches of relevance. Organizational Context: Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator for Family and Community Health and overall guidance of Director, Health Protection and Promotion, the incumbent will assist in creating national capacities on reproductive health monitoring and evaluation that facilitate needs assessment and programme development. | |
Description of duties: Under the direct supervision of C/FCH and the overall guidance of DHP, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Assess reproductive health strategies and activities in Member States and identify innovative approaches and models which can be integrated into the Regional Office's activities to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve health through the life course. Facilitate coordinated responses by collaborating agencies and alignment of programme activities by building powerful and reliable information on reproductive health ensuring the leading role of WHO. Establish meaningful metrics to assess reproductive health programmes demonstrating rigor and creative engagement with the national authorities with specific focus on priority issues. Establish regional databases on reproductive health that serve an array of related technical and social activities. Identify and evaluate research opportunities encouraging national counterparts to seek new scientific courses of investigation, building both capacity and sustainability. Provide the needed technical support to strengthen the capacity of Member States in the area of evidence, information and research in reproductive health, including maternal and neonatal health and family planning. Conduct field missions to strengthen national reproductive health information systems. Achievement activities include: Create analytical measures for reproductive health programmes, identify and promote national research opportunities, establish regional databases on reproductive health, and provide technical advice to national counterparts. | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: Essential: University degree in Medicine and Master's degree in Public Health, or Reproductive Health, or Obstetrics and Gynecology. Desirable: Training in Maternal and Child Health. | |

Experience: Essential: At least seven years combined experience at national and international levels in the field of reproductive health and research, including maternal and neonatal health and family planning. Desirable: Experience in programme planning, monitoring, evaluation and training. | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English. Working knowledge of Arabic or French is desirable. | |

Annual salary: (Net of tax) US$67,483 at single rate US$72,467 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 39.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
