Background:
The British Asian Trust brings together members of the British Asian diaspora with leading companies and charitable foundations to support the poorest communities in South Asia. Focusing on the critical areas of education, health and livelihoods, we partner with NGOs that address these needs in practical and sustainable ways to make a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of people.
 
We aim to support high-impact NGOs on three levels:
 
•      Grow: We provide funding to enable established NGOs to expand their programmes andincrease their impact.
 
•   Nurture: We work with partners to provide hands-on support that ensures NGOs growand develop as strong and sustainable organisations.
 
•    Recognise: We provide opportunities for South Asian NGOs to raise their profileamong the UK donor community, helping them to diversify their funding and increase their brand visibility.
 
In the five years since inception, the Trust has raised over £2Mn to fund the work of 24
 
NGOs in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Working with local partners, the Trust’s Investment
 
Team has developed experience of identifying effective local NGOs, conducting due diligence, setting performance (success) indicators and monitoring progress. The Trust has supported causes as wide ranging as youth empowerment, rural business education, mental health and early childhood development. The Trust has raised funds by engaging the British Asian diaspora and developing partnerships with a number of UK corporates, Trusts and Foundations. In addition the Trust has developed an educational resource to raise awareness amongst British children of the challenges faced by their peers in South Asian slum communities and develop their entrepreneurial skills
 
In the next few years the Trust has ambitious plans to raise over £10Mn to scale up its charitable work in South Asia. This will have a significant impact on the Investment Team, which is now entering a critical stage of development, requiring an expansion of its operational processes and systems.

 
The role
 
The Portfolio/Grants Officer will be responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the Trust’s charitable portfolio, including regular monitoring and evaluation, management of relationships with NGO partners, and reporting to donors. A key member of the Investment Team, the post holder will work closely with the team’s Director and Senior Manager to ensure best practice and accountability in grant giving.
 
This role would appeal to someone who has already started their career in the NGO sector and is looking to build their experience of international grant management in an exciting and growing organisation. The ideal candidate will have a proactive and flexible approach, a keen eye for detail, excellent project management, research and writing skills, and a good understanding of development issues in South Asia. The Trust is a small organisation and the post holder needs to be a strong team-worker who is willing to turn their hand to a range of tasks and enjoys taking the initiative and working independently when required.
 
Additional Information
 
Hours of work:             37.5hrs per week (normally Mon – Fri, 9am – 5.30pm).
 
Contract:                      Permanent
 
Salary range:              £28,000 per annum
 
Annual leave:              25 days (3 of which must be used between the Christmas and New
Year period) in addition to public holidays and any discretionary day as
may be offered by the Trust to all staff.
