MSME Advisor (Non-Financial Services) - Yemen

Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) invites immediate expressions of interest for the position of MSME Advisor (Non-Financial Services). MEDA is working with the European Commission: Yemen Economic Support Program (YESP) to devise and implement a project focused on MSME growth. The project - ADEN (Approach for Developmentfinance ENhancement) will improve access to financial services and employment opportunities in Yemen through three main activities: 1) Management of a revolving loan fund for MSMEs; 2) Capacity building of local banks and MFIs; 3) Training and business development services to local MSMEs.
Position Summary
As a key member of ADEN's core team, the MSME Advisor (non-financial services) under the supervision of Managing Director will provide Business Development Services to MSMEs in Yemen. This is a multi-year/ time bound contract. Main responsibilities include collaborating and build capacity of local business development service (BDS) organizations; developing and improving frameworks for effectively reaching MSMEs and women and youth entrepreneurs; providing expertise in business planning and management and delivery of BDS service. This position reports directly to the ADEN Managing Director.
Qualifications
  • University degree, ideally a Masters, and ideally combining the disciplines of Business Administration, Social Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development or other related discipline.
  • Proven track record of at least seven (7) years' experience in small business planning and management, business development service, and/or institutional capacity building.
  • Experience with business associations and/or entrepreneurial experience highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with bi- and multi-lateral government agencies, donors (particularly EC, DFID, USAID), non-governmental organizations and other development agencies working in Yemen's microfinance sector.
  • Excellent skills in communication, relationship building, intercultural engagement, networking and interpersonal communication, negotiation and leadership.
  • Self-starter and motivator without day-to-day supervision; Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing program.
  • Fluency in Arabic and minimum three (3) years work experience in Yemen is highly desirable.
