OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
I. BackgroundThe annual Education for All Global Monitoring Report (GMR) is the world’s foremost publication on education. It monitors progress towards the Education for All (EFA) goals agreed at the World Education Forum in Dakar (Senegal) in 2000, identifies promising education policies, and analyzes a major theme.
II. Duties and requirementsUnder the authority of the Director of the Education for All Global Monitoring Report and the supervision of the Senior Policy Analyst, the incumbent will undertake the following tasks and responsibilities:
• Undertake quantitative analysis as required in the preparation of the Report
• Provide syntheses of documentation on selected themes
• Undertake research for specific sections of the Report and
• Assist in commissioning and managing external researchers and experts to carry out specific research studies
• Prepare written material for designated sections of the Report to first draft standard
• Support the editing of final version of the Report
• Communicate the Report in public fora
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION• Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, economics, politics, development studies or other
social science discipline.
WORK EXPERIENCE• At least 4 years of professional experience as a researcher and/or analyst preferably at the international and national level.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES• Strong quantitative skills
• Strong analytical and drafting skills in English
• Record of publications
• Demonstrated capacity to be innovative and to work under tight deadlines
• Excellent IT skills to carry out the work
• Ability to maintain effective working relations within a multi?cultural setting and to work effectively in a team environment
LANGUAGES• Excellent knowledge of English
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
WORK EXPERIENCE• Direct practical experience of work in a national education system, a non?governmental programme or a development agency
LANGUAGES• Good knowledge of other UN working language is an asset

UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars and exempt from income tax. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
