Operations Manager - Yemen
Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA) invites immediate expressions of interest for the position of Operations Manager. MEDA is working with the European Commission: Yemen Economic Support Program (YESP) to devise and implement a project focused on MSME growth. The project - ADEN (Approach for Developmentfinance ENhancement) will improve access to financial services and employment opportunities in Yemen through three main activities: 1) Management of a revolving loan fund for MSMEs; 2) Capacity building of local banks and MFIs; 3) Training and business development services to local MSMEs.
Position Summary
As a key member of ADEN's core team, the Operations Manager under the supervision of Managing Director will be accountable for office administration, procurement, and partner coordination. Yemeni nationals preferred. This is a multi-year/ time bound contract. Main responsibilities include ensuring effective set-up and transition of the fund ADEN to selected FI partner, consistent with MEDA standards, donor requirements and local laws and assisting in initial market research/studies for financial services and developing technical approaches and materials for capacity building initiatives. This position reports directly to the ADEN Managing Director.
Qualifications
- University degree, ideally a Masters, and ideally combining the disciplines of Finance, Business Administration, International Economic Development (or related field).
- Proven track record of at least three (3) years' experience in project development, management, and implementation, in the fields of business management, financial services, accounting, international business, or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years administrative experience in Yemen is highly preferred.
- Understanding of bi- and multi-lateral government agencies, donors (particularly EC, DFID, USAID), non-governmental organizations and other development agencies working in Yemen's microfinance sector.
- Excellent skills in relationship building, intercultural engagement, networking and interpersonal communication, negotiation and leadership.
- Skills to work with tools such as multi-media presentations, word processing, and complex spread sheets and email. Excellent writing skills are required.
- Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-past, constantly changing program.
- Fluency in Arabic and previous work experience in Yemen or MENA region is required.
