SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION
The Academy of Film was established in June 2009 in order to cope with the rapid development of media culture in the greater-China region, and to support Hong Kong's further development in this area. The Academy offers students a wide range of programmes, including four courses in Professional Programme in Film (Higher Diploma), three Bachelor degree programmes, and two Master's degree programmes. The Academy also supports academic and creative research projects by faculty members and resident artists. The vision of the Academy is to educate future practitioners and leaders, and nourish creators and researchers in the field of the moving image, a field which is of great importance to modern culture.
Director (PR078/13-14)
Reporting to the Dean of Communication, the Director should be a visionary leader and an accomplished scholar who is able to provide vision and direction, and to intervene effectively in the development of current and future curriculum and course content for the Academy. The appointee will also be expected to establish new opportunities for the Academy within the strategic plans of the University. He/She will work to create new opportunities for academic study, alongside practical experience within the industry, and will also ensure that the Academy produces professionals of the highest quality. The appointee is also expected to provide effective leadership in managing and developing faculty members.
Applicants should be renowned scholars with appropriate academic and professional qualifications relevant to the work of the Academy; and should possess outstanding scholarship; substantial experience in teaching, research, and administration; and the ability to build a strong team in support of the development of the Academy in response to changing market demands. The successful applicant should be proficient in English; proficiency in Chinese may be an advantage but will not be essential. Applicants from outside the academic world who have an international reputation related to the work of the Academy, and who are, for example, recipients of major awards, commendations, prizes or other honours, will also be given full and candid consideration. The University may consider appointing a suitable candidate at the rank of Director or Associate Director, as appropriate.
Appointment Terms
Initial appointment will normally be made on a three-year contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement, and more flexible terms of appointment may be negotiated. The appointee will be offered a highly competitive remuneration package, including a basic salary, retirement/gratuity benefits currently at 15% of basic salary, annual leave, medical and dental scheme, housing assistance and relocation allowance, where applicable. Scholar appointed will hold a concurrent academic position at the rank of Professor.
