The appointee is expected to conduct cutting-edge academic research, teach courses and supervise students' projects/dissertations/teaching practice at undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels and contribute to the work of the Department as appropriate. He/She should possess a clear research focus in Chinese Language Education with strong knowledge that enables him/her to teach Chinese Language Teaching courses for the local Chinese language curriculum and the local Putonghua curriculum. The appointee should also be able to teach courses such as Philosophy of Education and/or Classroom Management and Communication.

Applicants should possess a relevant doctoral degree, a track record of research, tertiary teaching experience, and native/near-native proficiency in Cantonese and Putonghua. A relevant teacher certificate will be desirable and knowledge of the education system in Hong Kong will be an advantage. Applicants for the post of Associate Professor should have substantial publication record in international refereed journals, and solid experience in course teaching, research students' supervision, programme administration/development and academic administration.

Terms of appointment:Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing January/September 2014. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
