UN WOMEN: STRATEGIC PLANNING ADVISOR

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Strategic Planning Advisor will work under the overall guidance and supervision of the Executive Director and in close collaboration with senior managers and staff of the organization to ensure policy, normative and operational management and planning work is aligned with UN Women’s mission and objectives and fully contributes to the realization of the UN Women strategic plan objectives including their funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor wider global and regional developments relevant to the effective and efficient functioning of UN Women policy, normative and operational activities including assessing their resource base and scope for innovative partnerships;
  • Contribute actively to strategic analysis and planning to formulate and implement strategic initiatives, monitoring and evaluating progress made toward the strategic plan’s goals achievement;
  • Advise on special initiatives, course corrections and/or adjustments required to stay on track including in the funding base of UN Women.
  • Prepare analytical/briefing papers and review reports;
  • Monitor implementation of the UN Women  strategic plan and corresponding operating workplans;
  • Pro-actively plan, organize and manage the Executive Director’s action plan on all aspects of monitoring the progress of the implementation of the strategic plan’s goals  and related initiatives;
  • Draft documents, plans and briefing reports for the Executive Director as they related to the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan;
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the UN Women Executive Office;
  • Manage, guide, develop and train staff under her/his supervision. Provide staff members with clear objectives, goals, direction, guidance and appropriate tools to enable them to meet their responsibilities effectively and efficiently;
  • Perform any other official duties and special assignments which may be requested by the Executive Director and/or the Chief of Staff.

    Required Skills and Experience

    Education: 
    • Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, law, business administration, business management,  public administration, or other related social sciences. 
    Experience: 
    • Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in planning and management, and experience of working in international environments, is required.
    Language Requirements: 
    • Fluency in oral and demonstrated superior writing skills in English is required.
    • Proficiency in another UN working language is desirable.
