PROFUNDO Supply Chain Researcher

With profound research and advice, Profundo aims to make a practical contribution to sustainability and social justice. Quality comes first to meet the needs of our clients. Thematically we focus on international commodity chains, the financial sector, government policies and Corporate Social Responsibility. Our international client base includes non-governmental organizations (NGOs), research institutes and government institutions, as well as pension funds and other investors.
To expand our research capacity we are looking for an experienced
Supply Chain Researcher
You will focus on unravelling international supply chains in commodity sectors (mining, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, forestry, energy), as well as in component and consumer product sectors (garments, electronics, etc.). To deal with the significant social and environmental impacts in these supply chains (pollution, biodiversity loss, climate change impacts, labour issues, human rights abuses, corruption, etc.) you find and analyse trade data to understand which producers are supplying to which buyers.
With supply chains becoming increasingly complex and globalized, it requires a lot of expertise and perseverance to find answers to the basic questions which are raised by many actors involved: Where are the products on this market coming from and where are products produced by specific producers going to?
Making the mainstream global supply chains really fair and sustainable, requires a thorough understanding of the relationships between the different upstream, midstream and downstream actors. This type of intelligence will enable our clients - NGOs, financial institutions, governments, and others - to assess the sustainability risks in supply chains and to find the leverage points.
With your research results and your advice you can help these different actors to address negative sustainability impacts in global supply chains and to set up and stimulate adequate procurement policies and regulations.
We expect you to:
be a passionate supply chain researcher with keen analytical skills and a high level of accuracy;
have substantial experience with finding and combining relevant data from online sources such as company registers, customs data, business media and other sources;
have experience with field research and have an extensive network of field research contacts;
have experience in identifying strategic entry points to effectively integrate sustainability and social justice considerations in decision making processes throughout global supply chains;
be able to coach younger colleagues in further developing their research skills;
be able to manage bigger research projects involving a number of colleagues and free-lance researchers;
show experience in writing and editing well-structured reports in English, while experience in writing reports in Dutch, French or Portuguese would be an advantage.
We offer:
challenging and varied research and advice projects with a high social relevance;
an organizational structure which aims to enable your personal and professional development;
an international team of highly motivated colleagues with diverse fields of expertise;
a wide network of inspiring clients from all over the world;
a friendly office close to the Amsterdam Sloterdijk train station;
a contract for 28 to 40 hours per week (to be determined in consultation);
flexible working hours and the option to work part-time from home;
an attractive salary, depending on background and experience;
a good pension scheme and other fringe benefits.
