Policy Intern position-WWF Romania

WWF has an opening through its Youth Volunteer Internship Programme for a volunteer/intern for a 4-month assignment with the WWF Romania.

Location: Bucharest (Romania)
Assignment dates: 1 February to 31 May 2017 (part time, 6 hrs/day)
Language required: Romanian, English
Age Category: 19-27 years

The policy intern will work closely with the Regional Policy Expert & National Policy Coordinator, in order to assist and support WWF’s advocacy work to tackle unsustainable approaches in the energy and transport sector that negatively impacts biodiversity and fresh water quality, by monitoring and influencing relevant policies, strategies, plans, and projects, and mobilising broad NGO cooperation.
 
WWF is an independent conservation organisation, present in over 100 countries and with more than 5 million supporters worldwide. Working with business is an integral part of WWF’s strategy to deliver sustainable solutions and meet our mission of safeguarding the natural world. The Policy & Green component plays a key role in this, by developing and implementing projects on energy & transport governance, water& biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Key responsibilities:
- Monitor relevant policy sources, make relevant selections of information and report/inform at least once per week to relevant colleagues;
- Support advocacy work (participating in meetings/trainings, taking minutes, draft information requests and letters, research, cooperation with other NGOs, when needed) for the integration of conservation measures;
- Support for project-writing activities with direct policy impact: organising internal meetings/ workshops if necessary, taking minutes, centralising data de report
- Policy research work under the umbrella of WWF Romania current and foreseen projects.
 
What Skills, Knowledge and Experience are needed?
  • Interest in  environment, nature conservation and WWF’s core mission;
  • University degree in Law, Political sciences, Public administration;
  • Proactive attitude and initiative
  • Analytical skills, planning and organizing abilities
  • Good PC skills (MC Office, especially Word, Excel databases and PPT; Internet Explorer and Google Scholar database);
  • Fluent in Romanian
  • Good English – reading, writing, speaking
 
Would be an advantage:
  • Master degree in Environmental law, Sustainable development or similar fields
  • GIS basic knowledge
