The CSIR is looking to fill the following positions in Pretoria:

Senior Research Manager: Earth System Science

Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE), a research Unit of the CSIR, requires an outstanding Senior Research Manager to lead cutting-edge and impact-driven multi-disciplinary research teams focusing on Earth Systems Science.

Key responsibilities: Management: * Manage the performance of researchers, including career development l Ensure demographic transformation * Implement quality initiatives and retain ISO accreditation * Implement appropriate financial and business systems. Research and research investment: * Support the NRE research strategy and implement same with the Research Group Leaders * Set strategic investment goals * Ensure high-quality Science, Engineering and Technology capacity * Ensure the impact of NRE Research and Development, in line with the CSIR mandate.

Requirements: * At least a Master's degree, preferably a PhD * A qualification in the relevant natural sciences
* Significant (eight years or more) senior-level strategic leadership and management experience in Government and/or the private sector * Proven leadership in fields, such as earth observations, global change and/or climate studies * The ability to understand, integrate and provide research leadership across all areas of natural resources and the environment * The ability to contribute to the development and implementation of NRE's research strategy * Strong leadership qualities and the ability to play a leadership role within the NRE management team * The proven ability to establish, facilitate and execute directed research programmes
* A track record in developing and implementing successful funding strategies and partnerships for research
* The ability to facilitate and conduct strategic stakeholder interaction within South Africa and abroad, to ensure that NRE retains national leadership and international recognition in the natural resources sector. Ref. 4952
