Vector Control Specialist Malaria Consortium

Uganda - Kampala, Uganda, and frequent regional and international travel (40%)

Malaria Consortium is a leading international organization working in Africa and Asia as well as at global level on communicable disease control. Malaria Consortium manages a large number of communicable disease projects in a number of countries. These projects range from technical support at central government level to direct implementation of projects for the control of malaria, tuberculosis, diarrhoeal diseases and neglected tropical diseases at district and community levels.

Malaria Consortium is engaged in all aspects of malaria vector control including development of policies and strategies as well as the design and implementation of large-scale insecticide-treated mosquito net and indoor residual spraying programmes.

Key roles and responsibilities

The Vector Control Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of Malaria Consortium Africa’s portfolio of work in vector control and will provide technical support to various projects, ensuring technical quality of their vector control components.

Regional

• Expand Malaria Consortium Africa’s portfolio of work on vector control
• Provide high quality technical support to various regional projects in relation to vector biology and control activities
• Support the development and implementation of innovative strategies for improving coverage of and access to effective malaria prevention interventions
• Lead regional resource mobilisation and new project development including innovative approaches to further Malaria Consortium’s work in vector control
• Work with the senior regional and global technical staff to mobilise resources for vector control operational research activities and ensure technically sound implementation
• Contribute to the development of the Malaria Consortium vector control team through mentoring and capacity development
• Contribute to the production of high quality publications and reports of vector biology and control activities

Global

• Contribute to the global Malaria Consortium roles on vector control
• Liaise with the Senior Technical Specialist – Disease Prevention on development of Malaria Consortium technical strategy and technical documents relating to vector control

Person Specification:

• Educational qualification: a post-graduate degree in medical entomology
• Work experience: at least five years field experience in vector control (malaria and other vector-borne diseases)

Line Management: the position is line managed by the Senior Technical Specialist – Disease Prevention.

Location: Malaria Consortium Africa Office, Kampala, Uganda, and frequent regional and international travel (40%)
