Advocacy Officer
Malaria Consortium is one of the world's leading non-profit organisations dedicated to the comprehensive control of malaria and other communicable diseases in Africa and Southeast Asia. Malaria Consortium works with communities, government and non-government agencies, academic institutions, and local and international organisations, to ensure good evidence supports delivery of effective services, providing technical support for monitoring and evaluation of programmes and activities for evidence-based decision-making and strategic planning. The organisation works to improve not only the health of the individual, but also the capacity of national health systems, which helps relieve poverty and support improved economic prosperity.
Advocacy Officer will play a key role in the development of advocacy strategies and workplans to support Malaria Consortium’s international profile and to help position the organisation in the UK, Europe and globally. The Advocacy Officer will also help with the development of innovative and creative responses to the challenges of delivering effective advocacy to support project aims internationally, but also regionally and in-country.
The successful candidate will:
· Degree/Masters in Development Studies, Social Policy, Development Economics or similar field, or equivalent work experience
· Significant experience in a similar advocacy role
· Good knowledge of international development and development policy frameworks such as health spending agreements, aid effectiveness mechanisms, MDG frameworks, etc.
· Good knowledge of UK Parliamentary system and policy process
· Good knowledge of major bilateral and multilateral health donors and their funding interests/priorities
· Excellent knowledge of the principles of advocacy and what it involves at a high level of stakeholder engagement
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office programmes
· Ability to work in multi-cultural environments and to manage a busy workload with fluctuating deadlines
· Sound minute-taking and administrative skills
· Ability to travel for up to two weeks at a time to countries where the organisation operates
