Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). This appointment and any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal’s mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected. Appointment against this post is on a local basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Within limits of delegated authority, and under the supervision of the Head of the Common Services Unit and the Transport Dispatcher, the Driver at G3 level is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorised personnel and for the transport of general goods; • Makes regular deliveries of parcels, documents, etc., between the STL Headquarters and other offices and institutions, e.g. Ministries, Embassies, Permanent Missions, etc.; • Makes minor purchases and collect urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested; collects goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities; may make or collect payment for goods; • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required; • Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors; • Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc.; performs minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean; • Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.; • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident; • Applies good judgment in the context of assignments given; • Assists the Unit with related tasks when not driving the vehicle; • Performs any ad-hoc duties as required by the Head of Unit

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; valid Driver’s License; demonstrated ability to use computer technology; Advanced Driving Training, as well as a valid certification for driving armoured vehicles are an advantage.

• Work Experience: A minimum of 3 year experience as a driver with a clean driving record. Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans, and other kinds of motorized vehicles. Experience within the international work environment is an asset. • Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post proficiency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Dutch is an asset. Knowledge of the other official languages is desirable.
