The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies.
OCHA’s mission is to mobilise and coordinate the collective efforts of the international community, in particular those of the UN system, for effective and principled humanitarian action, in order to meet the humanitarian needs arising from disasters and emergencies.
From 35 offices around the world, some 1,900 specialized and dedicated OCHA staff work to ensure that effective assistance reaches millions of humanitarian beneficiaries in four continents. Since 1999, OCHA’s regional office in Fiji supports 14 Pacific Island Countries and collaborates closely with all national and international humanitarian partners in the Pacific.

The OCHA Pacific Regional Office seeks to recruit qualified nationals for the following position:
1. Information Management Officer
Under the overall guidance of the Regional Disaster Response Advisor and the direct supervision of Regional Information Management Officer, the Information Management Officer will support the Regional Information Management Officer in information management (IM) and GIS responsibilities, and support the Humanitarian Affairs Officer (HAO) in public information responsibilities ensuring high quality, efficiency and timeliness of work.
Key functions include:
§ Provide IM support and services for humanitarian analysis.
§ Provide public information management support and services.
§ Data preparedness and networks.
§ Provide Geo-information support and services.
§ Provide support to the coordination and analysis of humanitarian responses, including natural disasters.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
? Masters Degree preferably in Information Management, computer science or other relevant field.
? Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible relevant, professional experience.
Strong practical background in public information, marketing and? communication.
Strong practical background in GIS and cartography, including? knowledge of current GIS software( ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine), knowledge of related software systems (Illustrator, Google Earth, MS access, MYSQL, MS SQL Server and other spatial databases) , knowledge on remote sensing image processing, knowledge on various GIS and related open source tools.
Experience working in a complicated setting that requires? political astuteness, sound judgment, and operational flexibility.
Must have strong writing and communications skills.?
Experience in? disaster management an advantage.
Fluency in English? required, other Pacific and UN languages an asset.
Level: ICS-9 (NO-B)
