Nutrition Specialist, P-4, New Delhi

Under the general guidance of the Chief, Nutrition and Child Development Section, you will provide assistance in the formulation, planning, design, implementation and evaluation of UNICEF programme of cooperation in nutrition in India which aims to improve (government flagship) nutrition programmes and strategies leading to a reduction of malnutrition among children and women.

Qualification:

Advanced university degree in Public Health Nutrition, International Nutrition, Maternal and Child Nutrition or Nutritional Epidemiology

Eight years of responsible professional work experience at national and international levels in programme planning, management, monitoring, and evaluation of nutrition and related programmes. Experience in planning and implementation of training and social mobilization activities and added advantage.

Advanced knowledge of one or more of the technical areas of UNICEF programmes. • Advanced Technical Knowledge of theories, principles and methods in one of the following areas:  Public Health & Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Population and Family Health & Nutrition, Public Health Preparedness, Health Emergency Preparedness  Nutritional Epidemiology, Nutrition Research, Biostatistics, Biochemistry, Socio-medical Sciences,
 Health & Nutrition Education, Health & Nutrition Promotion and Disease Prevention, Educational Interventions in Health & Nutritional Care

Fluency in English and another UN working language. Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is an asset.

Key Expected Results:

  1. You will provide technical advice and support to state Offices and their counterparts on micronutrient programmes, nutrition surveillance, treatment of severe malnutrition, and more general nutrition programmes and interventions leading to development and implementation of effective workplans

  2. You will assist in assuring that Delhi resources for Nutrition programmes are used as per financial and management rules and provide guidance and support to state level project officers and their counterparts leading to efficient use of the Nutrition project budget as per defined norms.

  3. You will assist in assuring that a strategically well focused nutrition programme (at national and state level) based on evidence is in place, leading to improved (flagship) government nutrition programmes and interventions and significant improvements in key nutrition indicators using effective advocacy, policy dialogue and available resources. A special focus is provided on micronutrient programmes.

  4. You will provide effective contribution in terms of technical advice and advocacy for government and non-government partners at national and state level towards policy development and necessary shifts in programmes on food fortification and micronutrient supplementation, treatment of severe malnutrition and other nutrition programmes as required.

  5. You will assist in identification of funding need and preparation of funding proposals for Nutrition programming using existing donor relationships as well as through the identification and establishment of new donors. Assure timely good quality reporting on Nutrition programmes to donors through quality checks and preparation of aggregated reports
