Job Title: Regional Specialized Officer
Reporting To: Head of the Harare Regional Bureau
Location: Regional Bureau in Harare, Zimbabwe*
Duration: Three-year secondment (renewable)
Grade: 5
Deadline for applications: Open until the position is filled

Under the supervision of the Head of the Harare Regional Bureau, the incumbent is responsible for specific operational crime responses, covering all aspects of day-to-day relevant crime matters and provides general information on law enforcement and crime-fighting. In addition, provides adequate support to improve co-operation in the region.

The Regional Specialized Officer maintains working relationships with all staff members of the General Secretariat as well as the heads/staff members of National Central Bureaus (NCBs), INTERPOL’s Regional Bureaus (RBs), law enforcement agencies, international organizations, visitors and media officials outside the Organization.

Primary Duties

Under the supervision of the Head of the Harare Regional Bureau, the incumbent performs the following duties:

1. Analyzes and disseminates pertinent information;

2. Initiates and prepares analyses, reports programmes and projects concerning assigned countries dealt with or specific crime types;

3. Identifies criminal/co-operation problems in assigned countries and proposes solutions;

4. Organizes and participates in meetings and/or conferences;

5. Prepares reports/written communications and makes oral presentations;

6. Assists and liaises between the Regional Bureaus and regional initiatives, member countries and international organizations on request;

7. Advises on legal/technical possibilities for investigations and co-ordinates complicated ongoing investigations on request;

8. Serves periodically as permanence officer;

9. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

Experience
• A minimum of 10 years' experience as a law enforcement official;
• Experience in international police cooperation;
• Professional experience in international police cooperation in the region would be an asset.

Special aptitudes
• Ability to work in an international environment as a member of a team;
• Ability to draft high quality documents, including visual presentations;
• Ability to think/plan operationally and strategically and transform initiatives into new working practices;
• Ability to independently analyze complex/large volume of material;
• Computer literacy.

Languages
• Fluency in English is required;
• Knowledge of one of the Organization’s official languages (Arabic, French and Spanish) is desirable;
• Knowledge of one of the languages spoken in the region is an asset.

Working Conditions

Remuneration: INTERPOL does not pay salary to seconded officials. Depending on the nationality of official, an expatriation allowance may be paid for a maximum period of six years. This post requires occasional travel on missions, sometimes of a long duration and at a short notice.
