CEO, Shea Social Business – Ghana Planet Finance & SAP

PlaNet Finance and SAP developed an optimized shea value chain initiative in Northern Ghana to facilitate shea women collectors’ increased role in the value chain. The project had organized 1,500 women into the Star Shea Network (SSN) and managed to increase the women’s’ incomes by providing direct market access, along with safety and quality training. Now, after the start of the second project year’s harvest season, this network boasts more than 3,000 active women members in the Star Shea Network and an estimated 5,000 by 2012.

In order to ensure the continuation, scaling up and replication of the project, PlaNet Finance and SAP have designed a potential solution to promote the project’s transformation into an information, communication and technology (ICT) powered social business venture benefiting the poor.
