Court Records Assistant

Depending on professional background, experience and family situation, a competitive compensation and benefits package will be offered. The successful applicant will be offered a fixed-term appointment of one year duration limited to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). This appointment and any subsequent extension(s) are subject to terms of the Tribunal's mandate and/or the availability of the funds. The Special Tribunal for Lebanon is an international inter-governmental organization with its own independent legal identity and not a UN organization. However, STL follows the UN common system for benefits and entitlements to its staff members. UN staff members may also serve on loan from their parent department/office, if selected.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the overall supervision of the Legal Officer on Judicial Matters, directly reporting to the Court Officer, and in close cooperation with the Senior Court Records Assistant (Senior CRA), the incumbent manages and organizes court files of the Judicial Support Unit in the Tribunal's Court Management Services Section.

The incumbent receives, files, reproduces, disseminates official court documents, and ensures the safety, security and confidentiality of the documents and all record keeping in accordance with the established Rules, Practices and Procedures;

* requests translations of court documents in accordance with established SOPs and instructions from Chambers, and advises the Court Officer to determine translation deadlines;

* coordinates with the Language Services Section and other relevant units;

* maintains the organization of the case and correspondence file in the Court Management database and in the electronic legal workflow system ("E-tools"), and manages and organizes the hard copy case and correspondence file in accordance with the instructions of the Information Management Officer;

* ensures data accuracy in E-tools and up-loads the public documents to the Tribunal's website;

* coordinates, advises and assists the Court Officer and other sections, in order to maintain timely and accurate filing and distribution of documents;

* responds promptly to queries for information or assistance coming from Chambers, Parties and other sections relating to the case file, ensures follow up when required;

* keeps abreast of new or amended Rules of Procedure and Evidence and relevant Practice Directions; participates in discussions of new or amended procedures and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

* Work Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position.

* Languages: Arabic, English and French are the official languages of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. For this post proficiency in oral and written English is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Arabic is an asset.
