It operates as a Federation made up of a network of associations (Germany, Belgium, Canada, France, Luxemburg, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA) that provide it with human and financial resources, manage its projects and implement its actions and social mission.

Context :

In anticipation of the retirement of the current Director, Handicap International is recruiting its Director for Mine Action and Armed Violence Reduction

This division supervises directly or indirectly all the Handicap international activities of mine action and armed violence reduction, ie currently 15 projects (7 demining/clearance projects and 8 risk reduction projects) in more than a dozen countries, 15 expatriates and hundreds of national staff, with a strong growth objective in the next 5 years.

Out of the headquarters in Lyon, you are heading a team of both operational managers, technical advisers and support services (about a dozen employees).

Mission :

As member of the Executive Committee and under the responsibility of the Executive Director (CEO) of Handicap International, you will carry the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure the development and implementation of Handicap International’s strategy for mine action and armed violence reduction
  • Ensure direct or indirect operational management of all projects relating to your area
  • Define an action plan and a funding plan for the growth of your activity, ensuring its global monitoring on the basis of management indicators
  • Define and ensure implementation of the quality management system applicable to your area
  • Monitor trends and evolutions in the external professional environment of your area
  • Represent the association and promote its positions within professional networks (UN, donors, NGOs, commercial companies, ...) and within national and international bodies; develop the external communication policy

Profile sought:

 Holder of a professional degree and/or post-graduate education (in areas such as management or international relations), you have a significant experience in the NGO sector in the field and at the headquarters (desk).  You are used to the management of projects with heavy operational components. Without being necessarily experienced in this area, you have a strong interest in mine action and/or armed violence reduction  Successful team management experience  Excellent written and oral communication skills (representation in international professional networks, public speaking ...)  Strategic thinker, ability to develop the activity  Fluency in English and French (written and oral)  Computer litterate (Windows)

Frequent missions abroad (of a few days in Europe, of 1 to 2 weeks in the field)

Salary package :

Between 3 600 and 4 100 € gross salary per month (+various employee benefits) depending on experience and profile
