The U.S. Mission Addis Ababa is seeking an individual for the position of Information Specialist in the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Under the general supervision of the PAO and/or IO, incumbent is responsible for planning and implementing a diversified and complex countrywide multi-media program at one of the largest posts in Africa; carries out difficult and responsible assignments with little direct supervision; and supervises Program Clerk, Distribution Clerk/Assistant Media Technician, Information Assistant/ Webmaster, and Information Assistant/ Translator/ Interpreter.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

1. Required Education: A Bachelor’s degree in language and literature, political science, economics, journalism, communications, international relations and law, public relations and administration, history, or management required.
2. Required Experience: A minimum of four years of progressively responsible experience in communications/ media as a journalist, broadcaster, writer, public relations or advertising specialists, or a combination of similar related experience which requires specialized training in press and publications, radio or TV is required.
3. Language Requirement: Level 4/4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading of English and Amharic is required. (English language proficiency will be tested)
4. Other Skills: Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of the host country’s media, political, economic, social and education structure: institutions, political parties, and of key figures in the mass media, journalism professionals, military, government, and business circles. Incumbent must also have thorough knowledge of Public Affairs information programs, media and public relations techniques, and of U.S. foreign policy concerns; knowledge of publishing profession, from the selection of texts to typesetting and layout; ability to plan and schedule work to meet deadlines; ability to operate and maintain full range of reproduction, A/V, and DVC equipment used by Public Affairs Section are required.
5. Interpersonal Skill Requirements: Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers, outside contacts and other embassy personnel is required.
SELECTION PROCESS
When equally qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (AEFM) and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
