Background: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of
Manager – IT Systems & Applications.
IITA is an international non-profit research-for-development (R4D) organization created in 1967, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported primarily by the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). IITA seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Manager who will lead an in-house team of five programmers who are well versed in the different programming needs of the different standalone systems. He/she will report to the Deputy Director General (Support Services). The ideal candidate must be highly organized and resourceful and be able to multi-task and communicate effectively in a professional environment.
The Systems and Applications Unit consists of two Sub Units: MIS and SDS:
MIS (2 programmers + 2 Oracle Helpdesk) responsible for:
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance of Oracle Corporate Financial Software (O-EBS) and all applications that are near it.
· Financial Software (SAGE) that is in use by the stations outside Ibadan, as well as the interfaces with O-EBS.
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance of other custom written applications – for historic reasons.
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance of our Data Bases in general.
· Point of contact for all technical Data Base related issues and Helpdesk for all applications.
SDS (3 programmers) responsible for:
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance of custom written Java applications, mostly web applications.
· Implementation of, Extensions for, Adaptations of third party applications.
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance of Web platforms (technical aspect) for Library, Repository, Intranet and Internet web site, individual project web sites and their extension/adaptation.
· Customization/Operation/Maintenance and Implementation of third party/OTS (off the shelf) software.
· Point of Contact for all technical application related issues, whether for custom written application or OTS.
Position/Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Manager will be to:
· Ensure the effective deployment and maintenance of Oracle Financials and other ERPs.
· Ensure effective maintenance and support of all the corporate software systems in IITA.
· Drive forward a Systems Integration project that will streamline and integrate business processes to address major functions, including Human Resources, Supply chain, Project Management and Financial Management.
· Review and validate existing custom applications, re-develop applications where necessary with the internal team of programmers or through consultants/outsourcing. Ensure resulting software meets agreed expectations.
· Define programming standards to be used for all internally developed applications. Ensure that all internally developed applications are properly documented and follow the institute’s standards.
Core Competencies
· Good communication skills – written and verbal
· Minimum 8 years experience in Information systems environments in which a minimum of 4 years is in managerial capacity.
· Experience in International organizations in similar capacity.
· Experience in managing a team of minimum 5 members in different capabilities such as:
1.Software development
2.Software Maintenance and support
· Experience in INGO environment with multiple country operation.
Development tools Experience
· Experience in Oracle development tools.
· Experience in Oracle and MS SQL Server database environment.
· Experience with using and maintaining Linux, server virtualization.
· Knowledge of other programming languages to analyze and integrate with existing applications.
· Experience in C # , .NET environment will be an added advantage.
Project Management
· Experience in Implementing, upgrading and maintenance of Oracle Financials ERP.
· Experience in implementing other ERPs in HR Domain.
Duty Station: Ibadan, IITA Headquarters, Nigeria.
General Information: The initial contract is for 24 months, starting as soon as possible. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package paid in US dollars.
