Newsday/David Laventhol Visiting Professorship

The Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time, visiting professor (rank to be determined) for one semester (fall or spring term) during the 2012–2013 academic year.

As the Newsday/David Laventhol Visiting Professor, the incumbent will stress diversity in media issues, contribute to the Master of Science program, which may include teaching a foundational Reporting and Writing course/seminar in his/her specialty area, supervising masters’ projects, and advising students. S/he may also contribute to the Master of Arts program as well as to the new dual-degree journalism and computer science program. The School embraces diversity and seeks candidates with the ability to work with and attract dynamic and diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students.

To qualify for this visiting professorship the candidate must currently hold an appointment at another academic institution. They should also have a substantial publishing record as well as experience as a teacher, writer, and editor. A bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree preferred.

This one-semester position will begin no earlier than July 1, 2012, pending administrative approval.
