Objectives

The Regional Departments of the Bank are responsible for the coordination of all programming activities to ensure regional and country focus in Bank Group operations. They serve as the focal point for Bank Group operations in regional member countries (RMCs) and are also responsible for the continued enhancement of the Bank’s visibility and operations effectiveness at country and regional levels. The Senior Business Data Analyst will use quantitative and analytical skills; knowledge of technology, information systems, and quantitative methods; as well as research abilities to support the operational work of the department. He/She will provide input into lending operations and Analytic and Advisory Activities.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Director, and in close collaboration with the Lead economist, the incumbent’s duties and responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Perform in depth economic and financial analysis, using statistical and econometric applications such as Eviews, Stata, TSP, etc.;
  • Identify and access sources of information relevant to the activities of the department;
  • Conduct literature and data searches for on-going research projects, prepare written summaries of relevant literature, and track policy developments in relevant areas;
  • Create a comprehensive data base for each country and for the region in collaboration with ESTA;
  • Coordinate the production cycle of the analytical work program and publications in the department;
  • Maintain the knowledge portfolio database of the department ;
  • Select, compile, organize and prepare presentation material for use in discussions and briefings by management;
  • Assist in the organisation of workshops and conferences and dissemination of knowledge products;
  • Perform any other assignments as may be delegated by the Regional Director or Task Manager;
  • Liaise with the Information Management and Methods Department (CIMM), if necessary, for all issues relating to the econometric software acting as resource person in the department;
  • Participate in Bank missions.

Selection Criteria

  • At least a Master’s degree or its equivalent in Quantitative methods, Economics, Finance, Business Management, or in a related discipline;
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, and proficiency with the use of econometric packages as Eviews, Stata, TSP, etc.;;
  • Experience in coordinating the preparation and dissemination of knowledge products;
  • Excellent facilitation and multitasking skills;
  • Proven ability to manage and deliver many products and projects within the required time;
  • Competence in the use of Bank standard software (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint);
  • Practical knowledge of SAP – Project Support;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with staff members at all levels;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in French or in English, with a good working knowledge of the other language;
