Communication and Information Manager ASD

The Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe, ASD, represents the aeronautics, space, defence and security industries through 31 national associations in 21 countries across Europe and provides an interface with the European institutions based in Brussels.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES

  • Develop and implement a communication strategy aligned with the Association’s strategy in order to integrate the information in all communication related activities;
  • Working closely with ASD’s technical experts in order to write position papers, press releases, the Annual Review, the ASD Focus, newsletters, etc;
  • Facilitate internal and external communication, including the collection and interpretation of facts and figures;
  • Preparing and drafting of speeches for the President, Secretary General and the Directors;
  • Staying abreast of the developments affecting ASD’s sector by reading and collecting information from the specialist press and media websites and by maintaining regular contact with our Member companies and Associations as well as with EU Institutions;
  • Building and maintaining excellent working relationships with specialist press and media;
  • Delivering the content for events to the Responsible for Events Organisation enabling him/her to organize properly events such as the Annual Convention, the Press Conference, the New Year’s Reception, ASD ’s representation at air shows and seminars, etc.

SUMMARY OF ROLE

Creating and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy, in order to enhance ASD’s image within its sector, towards the European Institutions and a larger public in general.

This role coverss all aspects of public relations as well as the preparation, production, design and communication of industry data (facts and figures) as well as messages emanating from the European aerospace and aefence industry.

The job holder is therefore expected to:

  • Support the development of policy statements;
  • Support the lobbying activities of the association and its members;
  • Provide data to interested parties (companies, analysts, consultants, banks, media, universities, etc.).

The job holder will need to update and maintain the following data(as a minimum on an annual basis):

  • Preparation and publication of a statistical survey among approx. 2000 EU aerospace and defence companies (Facts & Figures brochure, Annual Press Conference). Subsequent treatment of special requests for information;
  • Existing database with regard to government support to the aerospace and defence industry;
  • Existing database with regard to companies’ financial situation (analysis of companies’ annual interim reports and statements/forecasts);
  • Collection of ASD subscription based on employment including crosschecking this with public sources (Annual reports).

Within the framework of this profile, the following direct responsibilities are also included:

  • International relations with other aerospace and defence associations for the implementation of Statistical Survey and the first level of policy considerations;
  • Management of an efficient and effective workflow between the associations in order to ensure that the established work programmes are delivered;
  • Contact and cooperation with other external counterparts in data analysis, in order to enrich the set of sources and joint production of statistical survey.

The position holder will manage the ASD Data Analysis Committee; the Committee is the advisory body for the statistics methodology and sources.

GENERAL FRAMEWORK

This position reports directly to the Director of External Affairs, Equipment and SME.

The Communications & Information Manager works in team with the Responsible for the Events Organisation.

Within the organisation, the position has close working relationships with all the Directors and Managers, in order to create and maintain a good understanding of the issues at stake.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications / Experience

  • Proficient knowledge of English and French, both spoken and written. Any other European language is an asset;
  • A degree in journalism, communication, or equivalent through experience;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, paying attention to detail;
  • Affinity with figures;
  • Strong organisational skills with a proactive, flexible and conscientious approach to the work;
  • A real team player but autonomous, self motivated, reliable, diplomatic and shows sound judgment;
  • Analytical thinking, paying attention to detail;
  • Capable of working in an international and interdisciplinary team and environment;
  • Capable of working on parallel projects and assigning priority when needed, relevant experience in project management;
  • The knowledge of the structure and market conditions of the European Aerospace and defence industry is an asset;
  • A good understanding of the EU Institutions and their roles.
