Executive Director Project Chacocente

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project Chacocente is an international Christian organization based in the United States and operating in rural Nicaragua that uses a unique holistic approach to community development. The project relocates families from city dumps around Managua, and works with them for a minimum of five years to teach the skills that they need to live independently. Aiming for total transformation, the project works in the area of housing, health, education, food, agriculture, construction, job training and personal development.
The pilot project was founded with 10 families in 2003. In the near future, Project Chacocente will invite 10-15 new families to start their journey toward self-actualization and the eventual eradication of extreme poverty. For more information, visit www.outofthedump.org .

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
We seek a full-time Executive Director to live and work within the Nicaraguan culture, spending the majority of their time at Project Chacocente, managing a transformative program to help families escape dire poverty.

Major responsibilities include:
? Develop on-going goals and action plans for Project Chacocente
? Manage project staff
? Develop and manage yearly budget
? Oversee teaching of families’ classes, including personal development, business training, non-violent conflict resolutions, construction and agriculture, reading and writing and problem solving
? Serve as a positive role model for staff and families
? Report project operations and finances to Board of Directors at monthly meetings
? Liaison with Nicaraguan governmental agencies, NGOs and charities
? Participate in fundraising
? Advocate for families within Nicaraguan society
? Mediate conflicts within the project
? Oversee legal matters and contracts regarding Project Chacocente
? Oversee planning and execution of second phase of Project Chacocente including family recruitment, hiring and managing staff or transformation team
? Communicate with US churches, universities and individual supporters
? Participate with delegation and volunteer activities, time permitting
? Participate in construction and agricultural activities, time permitting





CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

• An individual with a strong spiritual foundation who follows Christian teachings
• At least three to five years of participatory management experience, ideally in a nonprofit organization; with experience in hiring, employee development and evaluation and strategic planning
• A high degree of financial literacy and sound business judgment
• Fluent in both English and Spanish
• Exceptional written and verbal skills
• Personal commitment to Project Chacocente’s vision and mission
• Ability to work within the Nicaraguan culture
• Proven “people” skills with experience in mediation and facilitation
• Effective presentation and teaching skills
• An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a desire to work creatively with a team and external collaborators to develop new programs, initiatives, and opportunities

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is negotiable with paid yearly leave and catastrophic health insurance.
