• BACKGROUND:

Handicap International’s head office in Lyon is currently seeking an Orthopaedics/Rehabilitation Technical Advisor on a temporary basis.

Reporting to the manager of the “Rehabilitation Unit” (6 people), the Technical Advisor liaises with the teams in the field, the Development Division (DAD), and, as the need arises, the Emergency Response Division (DAU. He/she will maintain standards in the projects developed or to be implemented that involve his/her area of expertise by contributing his/her confirmed experience in the area of orthopaedic materials and technical aids. He/she will also participate in the Organisation’s efforts to adopt consistent technical approaches and its external representation (networks and positioning). He/ she will also be responsible for the recycling of the orthopaedic components’ project, based in the Lyon suburbs, in cooperation with the African Federation of Orthopedic Technicians (FATO).

• JOB DESCRIPTION:

The technical orthopaedic-rehabilitation advisor supports our teams in the field with monitoring and evaluating their projects.

Your responsibilities:

1/ Supporting rehabilitation projects in the field:

  • You will support the design and implementation of orthopaedic-rehabilitation projects by ensuring their pertinence (in relation to the Organisation’s mandate and positioning) and adequacy of standards: participate in defining strategy, mission planning prior to roll out and formulation of projects, specifications, monitoring and capitalisation of knowledge.
  • You will contribute to the development of professional know-how through the introduction and steering of a remote modular training course in one or several pilot projects.
  • You will also coordinate and validate work in progress on emergency orthopaedic material (protocols and tests)

2/ Knowledge management:

  • You will familiarise yourself with existing reference documents on orthopaedics/rehabilitation and the technical documentation available in the knowledge management unit of the Technical Resources Division (DRT) (see the “Skill Web” portal) and propose updates of the data if required.
  • You will build on and update the compilation of technical documents (toolkit) available to staff in the field.
  • You will participate in ongoing initiatives to improve our practices in terms of sustainability and standards in rehabilitation services.
  • You will help maintain the team’s professional skills by participating in the expatriate and national staff recruitment process, and defining and implementing specific and individual training on orthopaedic-rehabilitation for project teams.

• PROFILE REQUIRED:

You have a diploma in orthopaedic material or equivalent (ISPO level I or equivalent training), and a dual university diploma (Education, Public Health, or other). You must have at least 5 years experience and have worked in more than one developing country. You have previous experience in managing and coordinating projects (orthopaedic materials and rehabilitation services/ activities, teams). Adaptable, innovative, good analytical skills, you have excellent written and verbal communication skills (public speaking) and you enjoy working in a team.

Languages required: Working knowledge of English and French are mandatory (spoken and written).

Employment conditions:

Travel to field programmes are to be expected. Salary: Between 2,400 and 2,700 Euros gross per month, depending on experience + luncheon vouchers + mandatory complementary medical insurance (employer contribution of 50%) Fist-line supervisor status (25 days paid leave + 23 additional RTT days)
