Ghana Gender Advisor

Background: Youth Challenge International is a leading global youth development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change. Partner Organization: The YMCA of Ghana was founded in 1890 and its mission is to bring positive change to the lives of young people and to make them useful and productive citizens. The YMCA of Ghana is headquartered in Accra and operates in 77 communities in 8 of the 10 Administrative Regions in Ghana (http://www.ymcaghana.org/home/).

Position Description: • Develop a national gender policy implementation plan using participatory methodologies • Work with the regional executive members to set goals for each region for the implementation of the policy • Design, implement and evaluate gender equality programs for two regional YMCAs outside of Accra • Support the development of targeted membership drives to increase female membership at the Ghana YMCA

Desired Background and Qualifications: • Post-secondary graduate in gender studies, social sciences, humanities or related field • Strong working knowledge of issues related to good governance, gender and youth • Training and/or experience in mainstreaming gender into programming • Ability to work in an environment with limited resources • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Good cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills. • Possess a great deal of initiative and flexibility • Prior overseas experience an asset

General Requirements: • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident • Between the ages of 19 and 30 • A post-secondary graduate • Out of school with no outstanding requirements for graduation • Ready to begin your professional career • Unemployed or underemployed • Legally entitled to work in Canada
