Haiti Education Project Manager

J/P HRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to help lift the nation of Haiti out of the rubble and give the Haitian people a better life, is seeking experienced professionals for several exciting opportunities as part of its response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

The Education Project Manager will coordinate and implement education efforts in the Petionville Club and Cite Maxo displaced persons camps (22,000 inhabitants) as well as the Delmas 32 neighborhood (75,000 inhabitants) of Port-au-Prince. J/P HRO manages a school currently hosting 420 students. The Education Project Manager will oversee the management of the J/P HRO school located in the Petionville Club Camp and initiate improvements to make it a best-in-class education facility. S/he will also be leading the transition of the school from camp to a brand new facility in the Delmas 32 neighborhood. J/P HRO is looking to form a network of multiple schools in the Delmas 32 area focused on education improvement. The Education Project Manager will develop capacities of partner schools through the establishment of the neighborhood education support system composed of the different school councils. S/he will build relationships with community, service providers, state institutions and donors to ensure that the school network has the adequate resources to function and to improve its performance.

Responsibilities:

School Network Development

• Develop partnership agreements with schools in the Delmas 32 neighborhood • Update needs assessment and analysis for the targeted schools as needed • Conduct best practices research to gather relevant material to introduce relevant changes to current school practices • In collaboration with school councils, develop action plans for school improvement • In collaboration with the Program Development department, craft advocacy and resource mobilization strategies • Collect and analyze data on school activities and performance • Coordinate capacity building to ensure adequate support to partner schools and the application of appropriate educational standards • Ensure involvement and good communication with local and national authorities

School Management

• Plan, oversee and review the education activities of the J/P HRO-managed school “Ecole de l’Espoir” • Establish performance targets for the school and monitor their progress • Ensure education quality assessments and the implementation of required improvement measures • Lead staff evaluations and craft training program to improve their competencies • Participate in school council meetings to understand school dynamics and identify issues to be resolved • Supervise logistics related to school supplies procurement

Administration, Reporting and Team Management

• Ensure proper administrative and financial management of the Education department • Report to Program Manager about activity progress, issues, risks and constraints on a weekly basis • Manage the Education department team and develop the staff’s capacities and leadership

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, international development or a related field (required); Master’s in Education (desirable) • Experience in education (required) • Experience in school management (desirable) • Familiarity with Haitian education system (desirable) • Proven track record of working at a senior level with host governments, international donors and academic institutions (desirable)

Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Good training, facilitation and networking skills • Experience in project management and with community-driven approaches • Good analytical, organizational and report writing skills • Capacity to work under pressure and in a multi-cultural environment • Fluency in French and Creole (required) • Fluency in English (desirable)
