Haiti Planning Advisor (volunteer position)

J/P HRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to help lift the nation of Haiti out of the rubble and give the Haitian people a better life, is seeking experienced professionals for several exciting opportunities as part of its response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Description

The Planning Advisor supports the planning and budgeting activities of J/P HRO. S/he will lead the internal workshops across departments to elaborate a coherent strategic plan for J/P HRO. S/he will also be responsible for the 2012 budgeting cycle. S/he will review past budgets and, in line with the organization’s objectives, will support the departments in devising their monthly and yearly budgets taking into consideration J/P HRO’s funding capacity. S/he will consolidate the department budgets into a single comprehensive 2012 budget for J/P HRO.

Responsibilities

Program planning

Design Program planning workshop framework Conduct planning sessions with organisation management and with key staff members Devise a coherent Programs plan that reflects the organisation’s objectives

Budgeting

Analyze overall 2011 budget and monthly expenses Spearhead the activities related to establishing the yearly budget for the different departments of J/P HRO dividing responsibilities, establishing deadlines and supervising tasks Consolidate results of the budgeting cycle for all departments into a single budget that summarizes all spending on a monthly and yearly basis Consult with the Finance department to refine findings from programs and program support and ensure coherence with financial guidelines Finalize a complete 2012 budget for the organization

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (required), Master’s degree (desirable) Minimum of 5 years of work experience (required) Consulting background (required) Previous work in Organisational planning (required) Previous work with non-governmental or international organisations (desirable) First-hand knowledge of the Haitian context (desirable)

Superior written and verbal communication skills Ability to facilitate large team workshops Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively network and manage a variety of relationships in a multicultural environment Team player Solid organizational skills and capacity to prioritize and work productively and accurately while under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment Flexible work attitude, ability to meet unexpected demands and capacity to work both in a team environment and independently Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Fluency in English and French (required) Integrity and commitment to humanitarian values
