Haiti Program Development Officer (Grant Writing focus)

J/P HRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to help lift the nation of Haiti out of the rubble and give the Haitian people a better life, is seeking experienced professionals for several exciting opportunities as part of its response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

NOTE: Only candidates that are fluent in both French and English with strong writing skills in the two languages will be considered for this position.

Description:

The Program Development Officer calls for a highly effective development professional to support the organization. As part of a dynamic team, s/he will be responsible to research grant programs, lead the writing of competitive proposals and coordinate donor-related activities with wide range of stakeholders. S/he will also coordinate with Monitoring and Evaluation to provide timely and high-quality reports to J/P HRO’s donors.

Responsibilities:

Grant and Funding Research Conduct inter-department meetings to identify and prioritize funding needs Research grant opportunities on a regular basis Liaise with donor organizations to get grant-related information as needed Provide timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements and procedures Collaborate in defining and implementing project funding strategies

Proposal Writing Formulate grant proposals and coordinate the appropriate contributions from the different program departments Coordinate with Finance and program departments to develop budgets and facilitate discussions around costs and budgets Edit draft proposals to ensure high-quality of final submissions in accordance with grant/donor requirements and deadlines

Donor Relationship Management Maintain communications with donors regarding grant opportunities and ongoing projects as needed Present current programs and activities to donors, potentially initiating field visits Support Monitoring and Evaluation in crafting quality reports for donors Participate in the documentation of the lessons learned and best practices of the different projects Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (required), Minimum of 3 years of work experience (required) Experience in writing in a professional setting in both English and French (required) Experience in drafting proposals for major development agencies such as CIDA, ECHO, USAID, World Bank (desirable) Previous work in monitoring and evaluation (desirable) Previous work with non-governmental or international organizations (desirable) First-hand knowledge of the Haitian context (desirable)

Superior written communication skills, evident through written proposals or other submissions; Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively network and manage a variety of relationships in a multicultural environment; Proven team management skills; Solid organizational skills and capacity to prioritize and work productively and accurately while under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment; Flexible work attitude, ability to meet unexpected demands and capacity to work both in a team environment and independently; Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Fluency in English and French; Fluency in Creole (desirable); Integrity and commitment to humanitarian values.
