PROGRAM: FISTULA CARE PROJECT
REPORTS TO: COUNTRY PROGRAME MANAGER / UGANDA

Fistula Care is an Associate Cooperative Agreement Award granted by USAID to EngenderHealth. The purpose of Fistula Care is to strengthen the capacity of hospitals to provide fistula repair, to enhance community and facility understanding and practices to prevent fistula, to gather, analyze, report and use data to strengthen the quality of fistula services, and to strengthen the supportive environment to institutionalize fistula prevention, repair and reintegration programs.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Program Associate supports the coordination and implementation of community engagement, counseling and communication activities to support prevention, treatment and care of fistulas for the Uganda Country Office.

MAIN DUTIES:
• Oversee the creation and adaptation of relevant communication materials for the Fistula Care Project. Responsible for ensuring dissemination of materials to appropriate audiences; monitoring and evaluating their use.

• Monitor, evaluate and support partners’ community mobilization activities to prevent fistula and increase access to fistula treatment at supported sites.

• In collaboration with Men as Partners© (MAP) technical staff, design, implement, monitor and evaluate Men as Partners activities within the context of community engagement in fistula.

• In collaboration with the project team, work on design, implementation and monitoring of fistula reintegration programming.

• Coordinate and strengthen counseling activities at partner sites through organization of counseling training and dissemination of counseling tools.

• Support the MOH in future mapping of fistula services in Uganda and monitor and evaluate use of Fistula Maps amongst stakeholders.

• Collaborate with project staff in writing the Technical Brief on “experience working with the MOH Fistula Technical Working Group”.

• Support the Senior Programme Associate in collection of data from the supported sites and compiling the FC quarterly report.

• Collaborate with relevant technical and administrative staff in Uganda, New York, and elsewhere. Oversee relevant staff in the Uganda Country Office on assigned tasks.

• Participate in dissemination and training activities of EH in the country, region and at international meetings.

• Ensure that lessons learned and potential best practices from activities mentioned above are well documented and disseminated.

• Where appropriate represent EngenderHealth at relevant meetings with donors, implementing partners and other external audiences in the country.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS
• Graduate degree in public health or a related field
• Minimum of 5 years experience in health programs, with at least 2 years of management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets.
• Knowledge of reproductive health services including family planning, clinic-based maternity care; HIV prevention, care and treatment; informed choice and client-provider interaction; training in participatory and gender-sensitive approaches
• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Significant experience in providing field-based TA in area of RH in Africa preferred.
• Fluency in English required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Experience in technical skills for training health workers in East Africa at both basic and advance level.
• Have well developed documentation skills, able to write high level reports to donors, partners.
• Budgeting and computer skills.
• Monitoring and evaluation experience with health programs.
