Programme and Research Coordinator European Microfinance Network

The European Microfinance Network (EMN) is seeking to appoint a person responsible for managing its programmes and undertaking research on a wide range of microfinance-related issues.
EMN’s mission is to promote microfinance in Europe as a tool to fight social and economic exclusion and to promote micro entrepreneurship and self-employment. EMN has more than 90 member organisations in 21 European countries.
EMN has a small team of dedicated professionals based in its office in Brussels, where the new appointee will be based.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme management
• Programmes: seek opportunities, prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, manage logistics and financial management;
• JASMINE (Joint Action to Support Micro-finance Institutions in Europe) programme: management of HelpDesk; organisation and facilitation of workshops; reporting on all activities;
• Technical Assistance and Training: promotion, planning, budgeting, organising and reporting;
• Facilitate access to EU Microfinance instruments for members.

Research and publications
• ‘Microfinance Overview Report’: coordinate tendering, work programmes and publication;
• Organise microfinance research awards;
• ‘Working Groups’ - provide support, including: diagnostic missions, research, reporting and publication of outputs;
• Youth and senior microfinance programmes: research international good practice; prepare position papers; propose programme design, publish information and promotional materials;
• Prepare, publish and distribute: Annual Reports, quarterly ‘Newsletters’, policy ‘Notes’, e-Bulletins, exchange visits; peer-to-peer visits; other major research reports.

Advocacy
• Follow up on the implementation of the European Code of Good Conduct;
• Coordinate advocacy workshops with national microfinance networks.

PERSON REQUIREMENTS

• Educational qualifications up to Masters level in economics, finance, political science or another relevant field;
• Experience of coordinating programmes; proven experience in drafting project proposals and managing programmes;
• Experience of leading research projects in microfinance and/or relevant fields and writing research reports; please indicate major publications (academic or work related);
• Experience of making presentations and moderating panels during workshops or conferences;
• Demonstrable strong analytical skills; ability to write English so that complicated issues are explained in a readable, non-academic style;
• Near native in at least two major European languages, English being essential;
• Experience of working and living in a variety of cultures and countries;
• Flexible, self-starting, participative, results-oriented and hard-working style; prepared to travel throughout Europe.
