Regional Program Manager

Since 2002, Avance assists organisations working in international development cooperation to improve their strategies and strengthen their organisations. Besides consultancy, we like to be involved in the implementation as well. Therefore, Avance develops and manages programs for a limited number of clients - programs in a complex setting, with a large number of stakeholders and funders. We are a small and motivated team working on several programs in a varied and international environment.

The programs we manage are related to our team's sound experience in sustainable sector development for different commodities as well as biodiversity and climate change issues. We have been involved in the development and implementation of programs in coffee, tea, cotton and cacao, always in public/private partnerships.
Due to the growth of the different programs in Africa, we are looking for a

Regional Program Manager
36 hours/week

someone who can take up the challenge to manage the current activities and contribute to make these grow even more.

The position:
The Regional Program Manager provides dynamic and creative leadership to deal with varied program activities with a particular focus on Africa. The main focus of the Regional Program Manager will be the Progreso Program, Progreso Network and ProClimate:

  • The Progreso program (www.progreso.nl) works with producer organisations in the coffee and cocoa sector. These are supported in their development so they become professional international oriented businesses, providing the best services to their members and, as such, contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of small-scale farmers and their families.
  • The Progreso Network (www.progresonetwork.org) is a web-based platform to facilitate learning, knowledge building, and exchange, and to stimulate cooperation among producer organisations and their partners in the coffee and cacao sector. The community targets producer organisations, their business partners, NGO's, and research institutions that contribute to producer organisation development with projects, programmes, studies, and funding.
  • ProClimate (www.proclimate.org) focuses on the way in which farmers and their organisations are adapting to the effects of climate change on agriculture, and look for a market-oriented approach in doing so. ProClimate wants to put (coffee, cocoa, tea and cotton) smallholders into the spotlight as active actors of sustainable change, to capture their organisations' innovative capacity, and to match them with the current innovations from sustainability standards and the emerging markets for PES (payment for environmental services).

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies, strategic plans and annual plans for these programs and coordinate their implementation;
  • Develop and manage program budget and (financial) administration;
  • Coordinate reporting from partners and reporting towards financers in coordination with team;
  • Advise producer organisations and other partners involved (such as importers and roasters);
  • Actively look for and build new partnerships and carry out fundraising activities;
  • Contribute to the general PR / communication on the different programs;
  • Contribute to online and offline learning initiatives (within Progreso Network); and
  • Other duties assigned.

Salary:

Based on experience: in the range between 3.100 and 3.500 Euros gross per month (based on a 36-hour week).

Functie-eisen

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in relevant discipline preferred (such as Business Administration, Development Studies, Sociology, Agribusiness, Economics, etc. a.o.)
  • 5-7 years experience in program management, planning and monitoring;
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with African partners;
  • Fluency in Dutch and English; French a plus;
  • Experience in design and implementation of development proposals and projects with focus on value chains, preferably in coffee and cocoa sectors;
  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively with several stakeholders including producer groups, local governments, private companies, NGO's and civil society;
  • Excellent communication skills: written, presentation, and verbal;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently;
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally.
