Web Designer/Social Media Officer

Full time - 3 month contract

The Secretariat is looking for a Web Designer/Social Media Officer.

The Web Designer/Social Media Officer will report to the Head of Communications and lead the online communication efforts. S/he will work closely with the Head of Communications, APP Partnerships Manager and other APP staff and consultants, and liaise with colleagues in other relevant African and global organizations.

S/he will be responsible for designing and implementing an online strategy within the communications strategy that reflect innovative new social media and communication mechanisms

The Web Designer/Social Media Officer will work in a cutting-edge and creative environment and will be able to advocate for Africa across the globe, thereby contributing to ‘real time’ efforts to influence decisions that are pivotal to Africa’s future.

Core tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Communications to develop a communications strategy on the basis of the APP Work Plan;
  • Develop and manage an online communication strategy;
  • Monitor and report on the implementation of the online communication strategy notably on the use and impact of the website, Facebook, Twitter and other social media tools;
  • Design, format and produce short videos to update APP website regularly on APP activities;
  • Lead the production of a corporate video to promoting the APP
  • Manage the overall online presence of the APP on social media websites and online networks;
  • Manage the APP website’s technicalities to enhance its functionality in line with the communications and partnerships strategy;
  • Develop and lead online communication efforts for the launch/press conference of the Annual Report and other key media events;
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Competencies required

  • Proven experience (at least three years) in developing and supporting the implementation of online communication strategies;
  • Advanced university degree in communication, web design or a related field;
  • Experience of working with the social media;
  • Excellent knowledge of new social media and communication mechanisms;
  • Very good knowledge of web usability and web standards; an understanding of online tools in support communication strategies and tool options, including Web 2.0, CMS alternatives; experience in successfully launching websites;
    • Very good knowledge of video editing
    • Ability to take initiative while working within a team;
    • Attention to detail and to planning ahead;
    • Ability to drive projects from inception to completion;
    • Excellent networking ability;
    • Ability to write fluently and clearly in English and good oral communication skills;
    • Good level of French would be an asset;

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with skills and experience. Remuneration is subject to Swiss social charges and taxable under Swiss/Geneva law.
