Yemen Nutrition Coordinator

The Nutrition Coordinator (NC) must have the ability to manage, organize and support all aspects of the emergency nutrition program including liaising with the communities where IMC will implement its program, Ministry of Health, other international and national agencies, and donors. The NC is responsible for leading the nutrition team and providing technical support and capacity building of the team to successfully plan, implement and monitor International Medical Corps emergency nutrition program activities in Yemen. The NC will be responsible for ensuring that the IMC nutrition programs are implemented in line with international humanitarian standards and donor guidelines. Additionally, the NC will work closely with the IMC Yemen Health and WASH teams to ensure that nutrition is integrated into these teams’ activities as appropriate. Additionally, the NC will provide input into proposal development and response strategies as required. Primary Responsibilities of this position This position demands technical knowledge, management experience, and work experience in difficult circumstances and in conflict areas.

Program development and management • Ensure that the implementation of the nutrition programs conform to internationally accepted standards and country guidelines • Provide technical support and supervision on nutrition activities. • Monitor program impact and ensure that program data is valid and relevant, and used to inform program development. • Provide guidance to staff implementing the International Medical Corps Yemen team on the integration of a nutrition component into other sectors as appropriate • Provide technical leadership and support for conducting nutrition and coverage surveys, prepare reports and generate discussion within the nutrition coordination forums for any issues which needs to be addressed jointly. • Assist in compiling the nutrition activities inputs to donor project reports and proposals

Training and capacity building • Assess the training needs of MOH and other nutrition staff and develop a training program to meet these needs. • Conduct nutrition training for project nutrition staff and MOH counterparts implementing nutrition programs, focusing on all aspects of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM). • Ensure the establishment and strengthening of nutrition monitoring activities and train health staff (IMC,, MOH, and local NGO) in case detection and referral mechanisms. • Conduct and train health staff on surveys including nutrition and coverage surveys, causal analysis, and other assessments of nutritional status of target groups.

Coordination • Liaise, with the Ministry of Health, and other agencies (UNICEF, WHO, and WFP, INGOs) to ensure appropriate provision of service and use of resources • Keep the Country Director and the Yemen team informed of all nutrition activities and any challenges that may arise • Report, accurately and in a appropriate time, all relevant nutritional information required for the comprehensive development of the nutrition program • Represent International Medical Corps in Nutrition Cluster and other relevant Nutrition related meetings

Security • Fully adhere to International Medical Corps Yemen Security procedures. • Fully adhere to International Medical Corps Yemen field communication protocols and standard operating procedures, informing fellow team members and the Country Director immediately of any security incident. • Behave at all times in a manner which positively promotes International Medical Corps and its work in International Medical Corps operational areas

REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 6 years in emergency response); or a master’s degree and 5+ years of relevant work experience (minimum 4 years in emergency response) • Work experience in CMAM required • Program development and management experience in a Humanitarian and/or emergency situation required • Ability to train national staff on state of the art approaches to nutrition response in emergencies • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills to plan projects, develop timetables for agreed activities and oversee staff activities • Strong organizational and supervisory skills; • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within different cultural environments, • Experience of a flexible approach to managing and prioritizing a high workload and multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently • Ability to relate to and motivate national staff effectively • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources. • Excellent decision making skills. Experience of proactively identifying and addressing issues • Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures • Must work independently under difficult conditions. • Ability to analyze and interpret administrative reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. • Ability and willingness to travel to rural locations and live in sometimes basic conditions.
• Previous experience working for an international NGO in developing countries required • Previous experience in the Middle East desired • Arabic language skills a plus • Ability to speak, read, write, technical and non-technical, in English • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions from senior managers in the field and HQ, counterparts, senior government leaders and other donors.
