Underground Senior Rock Mechanics Engineer United States-Nevada

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Duties:
Successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Conduct routine inspections of all underground areas to evaluate geotechnical conditions. Investigate all incidents of ground falls or hazardous ground conditions and provide operations management with acceptable remediation or rehabilitation requirements.
• Manage the Geotechnical Rehabilitation Risk Assessment process including training, scheduling, reporting and preparation of the annual rehabilitation plan.
• Carry out in-depth numerical modeling assessments of existing and future mine designs to assess global geotechnical stability and hazards.
• Design and installation of geotechnical instrumentation to monitor stress changes/ground movements. Use collected data to alert operations and management to potential hazardous condition. Use collected data to calibrate geotechnical models.
• Work closely with the planning engineers for the following activities:
o Review and approve all development and stope extraction plans.
o Provide input to the weekly and monthly planning processes
o Prepare the annual ground control budget
o Assist with the Budget and LOM planning activities.
• Preparation of the annual Ground Control Management Plan
• Conduct evaluation of the ground support standards and modify as required. Ensure that all operations and engineering personnel have been educated with respect to ground support standards.
• Act as a liaison with government agencies and/or university research groups to assist in the transfer of technology to the company. Propose research projects that could be engaged or sponsored by the company to improve safety or operations
• Work with other Barrick personnel and outside consultants to ensure the underground division’s geotechnical programs and policies are acceptable and effectual.
• Work closely with the Ground Control engineer with respect to ground support, backfill and shotcrete systems. Provide technical assistance for the purposes of quality control and quality assurance in these areas.
• The development and presentation of educational material as they relate to rock mechanics and ground support (new-hire training, Annual Refresher)
• Other responsibilities include assisting the General Supervisor and the mine area in the execution on the plan
• Participate in all group, department, divisional, and company safety programs (PGI, Safety Meetings, Courageous Leadership, etc)


SELECTION CRITERIA

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining or Geological Engineering required. Masters in Engineer preferred
• Minimum of seven (7) years experience relating to Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in an underground environment required
• Ten (10) experience preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in project management and associated software, such as Microsoft Office, Vulcan and AutoCAD
• Ability to maintain accurate record-keeping required
• Excellent leadership and communication skills (oral and written) required
• Demonstrated capacity to execute and hold self, or other accountable for results required
