CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

The Tshwane University of Technology has the following vacancies in Senior Management. All the posts are full-time, five-year fixed-term contracts.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
(Level 2)

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will set the University’s financial and business strategy, policy and direction, while also being an active participant in the University’s overall strategy development and execution. The CFO will plan and lead all financial administration, business planning
and budgeting. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible, inter alia, for the direction and management of the University’s financial and investment portfolios, procurement and audit and risk management. The incumbent will assume responsibility for managing all university-owned business entities and as a member of the leadership team, he/she will work closely with and support other Executive members and the relevant University committees, including Council, Audit and Risk, Procurement, Finance and Remuneration, to implement sound financial policies and practices.

Requirements:

  • Appropriate postgraduate qualifications (preference will be given to qualifi ed Chartered Accountants)
  • Fifteen years’ solid experience in finance, accounting, business management and related disciplines
  • At least ten years’ relevant experience at management level at least five of which must have been at Senior or Executive level, in a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrated successful experience in strategic planning, policy development, forecasting, resource analysis, budgeting and cash flow management
  • Strategic investment management skills
  • Specialised knowledge of South African Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (SA GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • A strategic understanding of the financial environment in Higher Education in South Africa
  • Insight into the operational environment in which Universities of Technology operate.
