Communications & Events Coordinator European Microfinance Network

DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANISATION

The European Microfinance Network (EMN) is the leading membership based Microfinance network, specialised in Microfinance within Europe. EMN has 94 members in 21 European countries working on issues related to Microfinance in Europe, including MFIs, Banks, NGOs, researchers and specialised consulting firms.

EMN members conduct a range of activities that comprise direct financing, finance intermediation, business support, research, advocacy, advice and consulting.
EMN’s activities are coordinated by a small Secretariat, based in Brussels, which is financed, by member contributions, EU funds and services to members and outside parties.

The EMN Secretariat is responsible for the advocacy, lobby, communication, research and capacity building of the network. EMN members exchange and engage with each other and with the Secretariat through their participation in EMN Working Groups and taking part in network activities such as the annual Conference, publications, exchange visits, trainings and projects.
A board of administrators elected among EMN members oversees and supports the activities of the Secretariat and the Network.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Events Planning

•Organising the EMN Annual Conference for some 300 participants in coordination with the (rotating) host country;

•Organising ah-hoc workshops such as ‘EMN Debates’; peer-to-peer and exchange visits among members on a demand basis;

•Organising the logistics of the quarterly Board meetings as well as the annual General Assembly and any extraordinary General Assemblies;

•Organising any other event as determined by the General Manager and the Board.

Communications Officer

•Maintaining and developing the EMN website;

•Researching microfinance news and events on a daily basis and post most relevant information on EMN’s website, Facebook and Twitter accounts;

•Preparing a weekly information update to both EMN members and subscribers to the ‘EMN Newsletter’;

•Coordinating all EMN’s publications, including the EMN Newsletter (three editions per year), EMN magazines (two editions per year), EMN notes (four per year), discussion forums and any other publications;

•Undertaking all other tasks and responsibilities as determined by the Executive Secretary and the Board.


The ideal CEC’s profile will include:

•Dynamic self-starter, with the ability to engage and communicate clearly with EMN’s members and institutional partners;

•Experienced communications officer that can write and proof-read articles and reports in English;

•Experienced events planner that can manage demands from various participants ranging from microentrepreneurs, EMN’s members, representatives of the European Commission and other high profile officials. Experience in coordinating conference and events service providers;

•Creativity and ability to develop new communications tools, particularly interactive ones, in order to maintain the interest of EMN members in actively participating in the Network;

•Ability to work as a team player who can fit rapidly within a small and dynamic team; ability to work under minimum supervision and used to working in an international and multicultural environment;

•Proven ability to work under pressure while maintaining a sense of diplomacy to relate effectively with colleagues, members and external partners;

•Willing to travel (within Europe) and prepared to work on a flexible schedule.


The CEC’s qualifications include:

•Masters or similar degree in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, events planning;

•At least five years experience in international events planning;

•Track record in developing, maintaining websites using online social networks; experience in coordinating publications for small organisations;

•Knowledge of microfinance and exposure to microfinance ideally in Europe or in developing countries would be an advantage;

•Experience in working with or for membership based organisations and networks, preferred;

•Ability to write excellent copy for publication in English; bilingual in French; fluency in other major European languages would be a plus.
