Intern Resource Mobilization New York, NY

Support the teams within the Resource Mobilization department including Private Sector (Corporate & Foundation, Major and Small gifts), Donor Operations and Global Fund Raising through research, writing, and database management.

Project and timelines:

  • Prospect Research – 3 months
  • Draft Donor Briefings - 3 months
  • Research on Planned Giving Programs - 2 months
  • IAVI Partner database management – 2 months
  • Event Planning – periodic throughout internship
  • SharePoint File Management - 2 months

Responsibilities:

Prospect Research:

  • Foundations and Corporations – initiate searches with the Foundation Center Online tool and possibly Lexus/Nexus or other research tools. Data extracted would be entered into relationship management database.
  • Individuals – initiate prospect searches on Lexus/Nexus, Wealth Engine, and other research tools. Data extracted would be entered into relationship management database.

*Training on search tools to be provided, no experience necessary

Draft Donor Briefings – Create briefing documents with in-depth information on each donor or prospect (usually for MM or DC to prepare them for meetings) from information pulled from web search engines, Foundation Center, Sharepoint, and Sales Logix.

Research on Planned Giving Programs – Gather information and communication materials on Planned Giving programs at similar nonprofits and help formulate recommendations for IAVI

IAVI Partner database management – update IAVI’s existing list of partners (scientific, industry, vendors, donors, etc) with information provided by Finance & Administration and Business Development. Create excel pivot tables to allow for easy sorting and increased functionality of the data.

IAVI Relationship management database transition – should IAVI implement a new relationship management software system, helping with the testing and data transition would be a key responsibility.

SharePoint File Management - Updating libraries on new naming nomenclature

Event Planning – Help plan, organize, execute, and do follow-up for any donor events that are scheduled during this time including the potential donor event at the June board meeting.

IAVI and the intern acknowledge that the intern’s responsibilities do not displace regular IAVI employees’ responsibilities.

Value of Internship:

This internship is designed to provide first-hand experience and insight with the fund raising mechanism of a large non-profit. The IAVI Resource Mobilization activities are global and cover the spectrum from private to public sectors. The intern would gain indepth knowledge of how our organization researches prospective donors, evaluates information and uses it to develop solid leads. The intern would have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of aspects of the IAVI fund raising mechanism and work with teams of professionals with extensive experience.
