Conference Manager Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative

The EITI Global Conference, held every two years, is the highest governing body of the EITI and the premier event on the EITI calendar. The 2011 Global Conference in Paris was attended by over 1000 participants from more than 80 countries. Over 100 speakers from the public and private sectors and civil society presented at the Conference, including Heads of State.

The EITI International Secretariat is currently recruiting a Conference Manager to be responsible for the organisation of the next Global Conference to be held during the first half of 2013.

Duties include:
• Securing a venue
• Overseeing the programme
• Managing a conference budget
• Arranging for over 100 sponsored participants
• Inviting speakers
• Making other logistical arrangements
• Liaising with EITI International Secretariat and wider partners

Selection criteria:
• University degree
• Experience in conference and events management, including leading teams
• Fluent English language skills; French and other language skills desirable
• Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and work well with teams
• Experience in international development, diplomacy, or oil, gas and mining, is desirable.

Pay and Conditions
This position is from as soon as possible until the completion of the Conference which is expected to be in May 2013. A competitive salary package based on experience and in line with the EITI’s salary and benefits scheme. The position would be based in Oslo, though ability to travel regularly to the Conference venue before and presence at the Conference will be necessary.

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) aims to strengthen governance by improving transparency and accountability in the extractives sector. The EITI is a coalition of governments, companies and investors, civil society, investors and international organisations. It has developed a robust yet flexible methodology for monitoring and reconciling company payments and government revenues. The EITI Board and the international Secretariat are the guardians of the EITI process. Implementation takes place at the country level, in a process that emphasises multi-stakeholder participation.
